IGT 9/9/2021: NYM @ MIA: It's Still Better Than Watching Football

Have we discussed the hole in the fence that prevented Pete from hitting a triple rather than a ground-rule double yesterday? The damn place is indoors so why is that hole there (stop thinking what you're thinking, I'm talking about baseball here!)? Has no one ever hit a ball to that spot in the inglorious history of that ballpark or do they not care?

Luzardo sucks but anyone has the potential of pitching a great game against the Mets. He gave up 3 ER in 5 IP but got the win in NY on 8/2 (Pete homered). Marcus has started twice against Team Complain but the last one was in May.

1. Francisco Lindor (S) SS

2. Pete Alonso ® 1B

3. Javier Baez ® 2B

4. J.D. Davis ® 3B

5. Michael Conforto (L) RF

6. Kevin Pillar ® CF

7. Dominic Smith (L) LF

8. James McCann ® C

9. Marcus Stroman ® P

Marlins:

1. Miguel Rojas ® SS

2. Jazz Chisholm Jr. (L) 2B

3. Bryan De La Cruz ® LF

4. Jesus Sanchez (L) RF

5. Lewin Diaz (L) 1B

6. Sandy Leon (S) C

7. Isan Diaz (L) 3B

8. Magneuris Sierra (L) CF

9. Jesus Luzardo (L) P

Luzardo's got some stuff. Looks like a guy you've got to force to throw strikes.

The bigger question: is there anyone else on his team who even speaks Peruvian?

Apart from a lone Puerto Rican, we've got an all-foreign-born lineup for Miami:

1. Miguel Rojas, ss — Venezuela

2. Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2b — The Bahamas

3. Bryan De La Cruz, lf — The Dominican Republic

4. Jesus Sanchez, rf — The Dominican Republic

5. Lewin Diaz, 1b — The Dominican Republic

6. Sandy Leon, c — Venezuela

7. Isan Diaz, 3b — Puerto Rico

8. Magneuris Sierra, cf — The Dominican Republic

9. Jesus Luzardo, p — Perú

Man, Baez is a creative ballplayer. Enough to drive you crazy, but that run was all him.

As was that one.

my first time seeing Hand this season, he looks totally lost. He appears to have no idea where the ball is going. Then he fields that dribbler and throws wide left allowing the tying run to score. This team is making far too many errors (mental & physical).

Four of the six Marlins hits this game have failed to leave the infield.

Of course that's twice as many hits as the Mets have.

If Rojas had used McNeil to pinch hit for Davis, the Marlins would not have been able to counter and change pitchers since Bender had to face his third hitter. Makes no sense to me.
