Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Luis, the Mets' problem isn't a lack of conviction when they get their pitch. It's a surfeit of conviction when they don't.And as I type that, Pete convicts a ball into orbit to tie the game!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 The 8th & 9th baserunners in 5.1 innings are the first to score (or to reach 3rd base).Didn't help matters that 3 of the first 7 were erased.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Well, apart from the team's nightly early hole, terrific start for Cookie.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 10 baserunners (in 6.1 innings) vs 3 for SFG (7 innings)So of course the score is tied
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Since they exempt PH ABs from counting as a mound visit, every PH situation now almost automatically brings a mound visit.iow, their rule change designed to shorten the game is lengthening it.

Knot is on a roll.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 We get a good game from the starter but now Lugo ,& Loup are failing us.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 He was clearly out at home but the pinch-runner Tromp claims he was in there by a landslide.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 But Loup escapes the soup as the Giants look like the Mets once they load the bases.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 The curse of the leadoff runner continues to haunt us.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Baez should have stolen second by now.

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 The stolen base is a vastly under utilized weapon. For a team that struggles to score, they should be looking to "manufacture runs" and pressure the defense any way they can. Luckily, Villar walks.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Mets put up a PH ... and, whattayouknow, here comes the SFG Pitching Coach
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 J.D. Davis is available if they go to the lefty.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Author Posted August 26, 2021 Pitching change time
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 They should have sent Mazeika up to the plate and force the Giants to commit to a pitcher before the Mets committed to a hitter.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Bases loaded, the Met nemesis. Can they come through this time?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Once upon a time I would be very confident in this PH appearance by McNeil. That time was at least two seasons ago at this point.Right now he's in the yearbook as the boy most likely to pop up on the first pitch.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 McNeil needs to focus on golf because he sucks at baseball.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 What a surprise! The Mets leave them loaded and still trail the Giants by a run.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 17 baserunners for one side vs 7 for the other.Guess who's NOT winning?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 If they lose again by one will Luis be sated because they "battled"?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Except, Gary, that we've been talking about this 'favorable schedule' stuff since the two Pittsburgh series sanwiching the ASG
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 That soft liner from Davis would have dropped in had Slater been playing the typical no-doubles depth.

It's not like these Mets are doing much better than the playing-for-the-future Nationals.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 LOBs 12 to 5Cumulative LOBs 18 to 9And the only reason it's not more of a gap is because the Mets had three runners erased (2 GIDP plus the replay overturn on Nimmo)
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Another game, another Mets loss. The contrast between true World Series contenders (Dodgers & Giants) and playoff pretenders (Mets) was quite apparent this past 2 weeks. Good teams find a way to win close games, this team seems to find ways to lose them.
