ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Taijuan Walker will be walking to the mound tonight.Johnny Cueto comes off the IL for SFBrandon Crawford was pulled yesterday with back tightness and is iffy.Buster Posey likely out also.Mets get another dose of Alonso Baez & Lindor hitting together in the lineup.Should be much octane on most nights.LGM

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Lindor not playing today makes me feel as if the sense of urgency isn't there. Perhaps he could have come out of yesterday's game early given that it was over early.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 So far:A) were not losing by multiple runs we have almost as many hits as last night

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 IIRC, Johnny Cueto had some well pitched starts against the Mets back when he was with the Reds.I'm not optimistic about seeing an offensive explosion against him.Later
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 If signing Baez is inevitable, at least he's driving his price down.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 OTOH, Taijuan is flawless thru three and on just 28 pitches
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Gary: Tijuan is working quickly.Ron: Tijuan has it going.Next pitch....
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Pop QuizWhich team scores first in a game whereOne team that gets four hits the first time through the lineup while the other has the first eleven retired?Hint: this is a Mets game
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Is there a worse running team in baseball... history?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Whoever turned Tiajuan Walker around to bat lefty, make that person manager.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Nimmo may or may not knock in a run here ... but at least he won't hit into a DP
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Bags juiced for Alonso.Cueto staying in.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Alonso swings at Ball 6 but we get lucky on a bad error
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 And no thank you, Mac, popping up and stranding three on ball one.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 It's... something when your announcers know that your big star is going to swing at a bad ball.Meanwhile, maybe the new reliever has nothing so let him throw a strike but not if you're Jeff McNeil. Should have pinch-hit with Sisco. I'm only half-kidding.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 8 baserunners, 5 innings, 1 run scored ... and that was a gift
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 We were talking about this last night but what do you think-- do the Mets hit too many foul balls? I know fouls are sort of looked at as benign at worst but you got to wonder. It seems like while this team is busy not getting hits they seem to foul off at least 1 hittable pitch in every turn-- often, the best one they will see.So. Do the Mets out-foul the opposition? I have no idea but would not be surprised. Are foul balls good bad or indifferent, overall? They advance the count against them and only in rare cases they drive in runs; on the other hand the alternative is often a taken strike which also ain't good for all those reasons and more. But I dunno. Do any geeks study this?Is there a way for a club to "reduce" their fouls?Would the Mets benefit from fouling less and hitting the ball fair more?Do the Mets foul more than the other guys? How does fouling index with runs scored?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I'm pretty sure that the NYM hitting is foul ... but that's all I got.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Good fair ball by Dom there
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 An RBI Hit!!!!I have vague memories of what those look like.
