Jake Hager became the *eighteenth* New Met tonight. It's only May 15.



Last time the Mets had eighteen New Mets this early in the season? When Ed Charles became the Eighteenth New Met in 1967, on May 12. The Nineteenth New Met in 1967 was Nick Willhite, but not until June 11.



This means we have almost a month to make this the Fastest New Metliest Year since 1962.

Don't you have to wait until the end of the season to determine just how much of a "fastest Metliest" season 2021 is?



Another new Met this year debuting before June 11 only establishes that 2021 is the fastest year to 19 new Mets*. But what about fastest to 20 new Mets*? Or 21*? Or fastest to 11*?





* Not including 1962, obviously.

True, good point. And it's also one of those "modern" type of fake "stats" because there just wasn't that much turnover until the last twenty years or so.

Well, I don't think of it as turnover so much as churn.



But I think it's significant that it's happened in the last 20 years, and speaks to a concerning trend.
