Yeah, but his defense is mostly getting it done.

That hasn't been true around the diamond. At least, not until today.

Pete Alonso is on pace to hit his 100th career HR this season in what would be Alosno's 318th game played. If Alonso stays on pace, he will set the all-time MLB record for least games to 100 HR's, breaking Ryan Howard's record of 325 games. Howard obliterated the previous record, then held by Ralph Kiner (376 games).

Maybin is breathing down Sandy Alomar, Sr.'s neck, and with his next at-bat, will be going for a piece of the record for most extensively futile career by a Mets position player.

Randy Tate's crown, though, feels safe.

Jacob deGrom is closing in on Sid Fernandez on the Mets all-time strikeout list. When he passes him, he'll be in fourth place, and only the elite trio of Seaver, Koosman, Gooden will be above him:

1. Tom Seaver 2541

2. Dwight Gooden 1875

3. Jerry Koosman 1799

4. Sid Fernandez 1449

5. Jacob deGrom 1433

What's unique about this counting stat is that with one hit, Maybin will come off this list completely.

If you broke up this list into two lists -- one for hitters and one for pitchers -- a reasonable thing to do for this statistic-- Maybin is now tied for the top of the hitters list.

Huh, my friend had a different list that he pulled from Lahman.

His had Randy Tate (1975, 41 ABs), Harry Parker (1974, 36 ABs), Ed Lynch (1982, 33 ABs) and Jeremy Heffner (2013, 32 ABs).

For now. But Maybin has a decent chance of holding this "record". With the Mets roster in such flux, it's conceivable that Maybin's the next man out as soon as one of the injured outfielders comes back.

Yeah, it's up to him whether he wants to erase himself from this list with a single safety before the Mets lock this in by removing him from the roster.

Sandy, Sr., by the way, set this high standard back in 1967.

And hey, it looks like Randy Tate, at least, got himself several walks.

I think his was likely seasonal and mine is for full careers. Ed Lynch was a decent hitter in non-1982 years.

Here come the Lineup breakers — all-time Met champs of position-player offensive futility.

So Maybin was DFA'd as soon as the first injured Mets outfielder was activated off of the IL list (Pillar), but not before getting off the schnied in his last game as a Met, and coming off that list.

Michael Conforto's assault on the top has been drastically slowed, and Pete Alonso's reaching that rare air is seemingly delayed for another season, but Pete has just tied Yoenis Céspedes on the All-Time Mets homer list, and that's not bad.

In the last few days, Michael Conforto has knocked Edgardo Alfonso out of the top ten in all-time Mets homers, and and leapfrogged up to a tie for eighth.

1) Darryl Strawberry: 252

2) David Wright: 242

3) Mike Piazza: 220

4) Howard Johnson: 192

5) Dave Kingman: 154

6) Carlos Beltran: 149

7) Lucas Duda: 125

T8) Todd Hundley: 124

T8) Michael Conforto: 124

10) Kevin McReynolds: 122

His pace only takes him up to 128.68 but let's hope he doesn't miss as many games in the second half.
