My problem with Familia is that neither of his old backbreaking out pitches is there. So he got ahead 0-2 and still had to be perfect.

It's amazing watching the Mets get out of it on a double-play ball that I still think of as a single when it leaves the bat, and then seeing Smith get a single on what looks like a double-play off the bat. I still don't have that much instinct on where infielders should be playing these-a-days.

I think that's exactly what's going on. They're being told in Chelsea that we don't want you to remake the call. We want you to consider if it's clear and convincing that the original call was wrong.



And then they underlined clear and convincing, and they're hoping that, after a few disappointments, managers will lower their standard on when they'll make their appeals, and make fewer of them.



At least, that's my impression. And I think it may be working.
