KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Steven Matz held the Kansas City Royals without a hit into the sixth inning, and Jonathan Davis and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 5-1 victory in the seven-inning opener of their doubleheader Saturday. Matz (3-0) only allowed a pair of walks before Nicky Lopez's blooper to left with one out in the sixth. Matz gave up Andrew Benintendi's two-out double later in the inning for the only other blemish on an otherwise dominant performance.

Good for Matz! I hope he wins the AL Cy Young -- especially if he can rough up the Yankees along the way.

LAA-MIN postponed through tomorrow but they have a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday so at least for now, the Mets are still the team most inconvenienced by another team's virus outbreak this season.

Padres score a couple of late runs to salvage the final game of their series w/the Dodgers.

Benches emptied in both games #1 & #2 so this rivalry looks to be one to watch all year.

WSH has lost Strasburg to the IL. Plus, Corbin has been bad enough that the locals are worried. Too f'in bad. (WSH won't get embarrassed by deGrom next weekend while Scherzer avoids getting pounded by the Mets).

So HOU kept on playing despite before 5 players down while WSH couldn't play because the WSH (and MIN) situations sparked "concern". I'm not upset about HOU being at a competitive disadvantage--screw them--but the inconsistency in the league's positions based on the level of "fear" and "concern". The results are that Mets (and likely MIN) have to play more doubleheaders and make an extra road trip while the Mariners got to play a depleted HOU team. The league is still figuring it out during these "troubled times" but for competitive reasons, I'd like to see it be consistent, if possible.
