Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 One of several Mets from Casey's early teams who eventually became managers. Replaced a Hall of Famer with the Angels.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 What I remember most about Sherry from this forum is that he came up some in the comments to a quiz I one ran about naming all the Mets players who went on to manage a MLB team. (Backman wasn't included, and I wouldn't include Beltran if I re-ran that quiz in the future). Love this baseball card:[fIMG=444]https://img.comc.com/i/Baseball/1961/Topps---Base/521/Norm-Sherry-Larry-Sherry.jpg?id=b8aaa0c2-d81e-4365-8a9c-45c44d688b02&size=original[/fIMG]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 That is a great card. They also remain, somehow, to this day, the last pair of brothers to form an MLB battery.Yes, I've looked this up.Will and Deacon Jim White, Boston NL 1877, Cincinnati NL 1878-79Ed and Bill Dugan, Richmond, AA 1884Pete and Fred Wood, Buffalo, NL 1885Dick and Bill Conway, Baltimore AA 1886John and Buck Ewing, New York PL 1890, New York NL 1891Mike and John O'Neill, St. Louis NL 1902-03Tom and Homer Thompson, New York AL 1912George and Fred Tyler, Boston NL 1914Milt and Alex Gaston, Boston AL 1929Wes and Rick Ferrell, Boston AL 1934-37, Washington AL 1937-38Mort and Walker Cooper, St. Louis NL 1940-45, New York NL 1947Elmer and Johnny Riddle, Cincinnati NL 1941; 1944-45, Pittsburgh NL 1948Bobby and Billy Shantz, Philadelphia AL 1954, Kansas City AL 1955, New York AL 1960Jim and Ed Bailey, Cincinnati NL 1959Larry and Norm Sherry, Los Angeles NL 1959-62I guess the closest the Mets came would be Hank McGraw, who briefly made it as far as AAA Jacksonville by 1966 in the Mets organization, while Tug was still a starter with the Mets. He could have caught Tug down there. Or he could have caught Seaver.Roberto Alomar never got a chance to pitch, let alone to Sandy. But maybe someday Chase d'Arnaud will get to throw a mopup inning to Travis.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 I rooted for those 1959 Reds against the forces of evil. Followed them all year because there were rumors they would move to New York to replace the Brooklyn Dodgers. And I didn't remember Jim Bailey. I just looked him up. He went 0-1 in three games.Later
