Betances out for season — shoulder surgery.

Good use of the Wilpons $. BVW presented it as a low-risk/high-reward deal which Jeffy loved. What a waste.

Stephen Tarpley also going in for surgery, per the pitcher's Instagram.

Peterson has an oblique strain. Considered week to week, though it's usually an eight-week deal. David's is between Grades 1 and 2.

Of course he does, if only because one of the baseball "experts" (ESPN? SNY? I forget) suggested Szapucki would be the kind of bait necessary to get Kris Bryant.

So, the guy you want to lock up, suddenly, isn't Syndergaard, and it's not Conforto.

It's ... Stroman!

More seriously, the 2021–2022 free agent class, at this moment, looks pretty incredible.

I would be careful with Stroman. Small sample size but he is on the list of pitchers not pitching as well since the crackdown on sticky stuff

Well, damn, I mean, I wrote that back in May.

I full well realize this is a moving picture. For what it's worth, even since the crackdown, he's still outperformed Syndergaard and Conforto. But sure, that could look very different on November 1.

Lindor's injury is termed right side soreness.

The right side is always sore about something.

A smart team has another pitcher up from Syracuse for today's game as the IL move for Jake was obvious, especially as Lugo and Diaz won't be able to pitch today (and maybe May). Then there's our team which is playing a player short today.

SNY just reported that David Peterson has been put on the 60 day IL with a fracture of his right foot.

The injury will require surgery.

He was just walking in the clubhouse and felt a "pop".

So speaking about injuries and the IL, is deGrom pitching tomorrow or what? As if there's anything else Mets more important to be talking about.

Guess not. This was posted about an hour ago.

Manager Luis Rojas said Saturday it's unclear when deGrom (forearm) will begin throwing bullpens, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The righty has been playing catch and receiving treatment for his sore forearm, but he doesn't appear particularly close to continuing his throwing progression. Additional information about deGrom and when he might return from the injured list should become available in the next week or so. At this rate, his absence may be long enough that a rehab.assignment will be necessary.

Sounds like deGrom's 2021 bid for another Cy Young award is about over.

If it now sounds like deGrom's about a week or so away from pitching in a game again, plus, maybe, a rehab assignment, then figure about three weeks to a month.

The Mets have seven players currently on the 60 day-IL. That's a lot, right?

This could be a quiz if I was in the mood to emcee it, which I'm not.

But name the seven anyways, if youse wanna.

_______

Meanwhile, I was surfing for new news on deGrom which I couldn't find. I still think that the Mets aren't being as forthright as they could be about this situation, which is what I thought at the beginning, when I first heard that deGrom's start was being pushed back just one day so that he could face more division rivals. Yeah, right. The other day, Rojas said that deGrom threw off the mound and felt good. But when Rojas was asked how many pitches deGrom threw in that session, Rojas said that "he didn't know". Yeah, right, again. I'm hunching that deGrom won't be back until around Labor Day, at the earliest. I hope I'm overshooting deGrom's return.

Crap. The earliest he can return is mid-September.
