Raul Valdes, now 43, looking good for Team Dominicana in the bronze medal game.

Valdes didn't last the fifth, but Dario Alvarez now on for the DR in the rain.

Alvarez uncorks a wild pitch that ties the game in the soggy fifth. Not a great Mets night in any part of the world.

I was going to mention that Peter Gammons knows as much about the National League as FOX personalities know about COVID-19 prevention and treatment, but then I remembered that Houston is an American League club, and has been for a few years.

Other than they knocked the MFYs out of the playoffs, Houston being in the AL is one of the changes to baseball I don't like.

And you're taking a shot at Peter Gammons, why?

I think I mentioned this before.

I used to read his stuff back in the day, when he moved from a beat writer covering the Red Sox to a national audience. And then I realized the he knew, in this order:

1) The Red Sox

2) The American League

3) The National League

4) The New York Mets.

Nothing he wrote about the Mets seemed true to me. His "insights" were general knowledge if you read the NY papers, but must have sounded original to his national audience. None of his predictions about deals they were going to make came true. So I began to question how well he knew anything else.

This article was about an ex-Met, so I considered it through that prism.

Hey, I used to like to read Dick Young, who is vilified by many Mets fans.

Each to his own.

Yeah, talk about flawed insights.

I was. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that is mine.

At least I gave an explanation why I feel that way. I used insights in quotes because "copying other reporters' stories without giving them credit" was too long.

I hope it makes you happy to parse my posts about my choice of words, but I'm sure you understood what I meant.
