seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 I thought this was fantastic. A top-5 Pixar movie for me.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 30, 2020 Author Posted December 30, 2020 Gosh, terrific. We haven't sampled yet.Ranking is over-rated, and I guess rating is over-ranked, but I tried to think of what I would consider my top-five Pixar films, and that's some pretty hard-to penetrate territory.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 30, 2020 Author Posted December 30, 2020 Pixar films I have never seen: A Bug's LifeCars (I think I bailed at about the half-hour mark on this.)Cars 2Monsters UniversityCars 3The Good DinosaurCocoOnward
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Cars is really quite good
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 I also liked it. It has a great soundtrack that alternates between Trent Reznor synths and Jon Batiste jazz.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Yeah, that soundtrack. This felt like Inside Out for grown-ups, which I mean as a high compliment. (Thankfully, our little spawn never really had a vehicles-and-nothing-but phase, so we only watched this once, and didn't have to see any of the sequels.)Of those, the only one I think you'd miss if you didn't see it is our south-of-the-border entry. Coco is pretty delightful, with marvelously filigreed story and animation, and earwormy Mexi-folk-showtune pastiche music (courtesy of the "Frozen" team). And-- be warned-- it has a 97-98% chance of making you ugly-cry.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 31, 2020 Author Posted December 31, 2020 Yeah, Coco is totally the one I'd go out of my way for.Man, you just used the word "filligreed." I feel like that's a forum first.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 1, 2021 Author Posted January 1, 2021 I was less overwhelmed than you, I think. I liked the real-world NYC they created more than the cosmic world. Also, and this may speak to my comprehension, some of the epiphanies, while rendered inspiringly, were ambiguous in meaning. I would have liked a little epilogue to find out how the stories of the two main characters continued.
