bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 It starts at 3:05 because every game today starts at 3:05 (unless you're in different time zone but you know what I mean). The battle for 4th place and the battle of starters with 4 letters in their last name. If WSH wins they finish in a 4th place tie with the Mets. If the Mets win, they finish alone in 4th and WSH finishes in last so that's something.Seth Lugo makes another/his final start (depending on what the new front office decides) (RHP, 3-3, 3.82) facing Austin Voth (RHP, 1-5, 6.25, who pitched a complete (7-inning) game in his last start, v. PHI, 1 ER, 3 H; he lost to the Mets on 8/13, 3 ER in 4 IP, that was the Thomas Nido game, Dom HR'd off Voth).Nationals fans continue to be whiney bitches. I had dinner with one last night (socially distanced, of course) who bemoaned the absence of a ceremony and called their title "historic". Fine, they did baseball a favor by defeating the Cheaters but shuddup already. They started complaining in March that HOU was receiving more press than they were (they share the same Spring facility) and continue in today's Washington Post:[bLOCKQUOTE]Nationals fans are very protective of the 2019 title. That they couldn't bathe in it — or give the team a hero's welcome — was widely considered the worst part of the year. They are hoping the club bumps the celebration to next spring, even if it will feel different and a bit forced.https://www.washingtonpost.com/road-to-recovery/2020/09/27/washington-nationals-fans-world-series-season/#comments-wrapperhttps://www.washingtonpost.com/road-to-recovery/2020/09/27/washington-nationals-fans-world-series-season/#comments-wrapper[/bLOCKQUOTE]"Bathe in it." Vomit in it, please. "Worst part of the year." Yeah, that's the worst thing about 2020. And shuddup already, you won. You got Strasburg's inevitable injury over with in a short season, you learned where you have to improve, you're likely getting a Top 10 draft pick, almost everyone is happy you won because you beat the Cheaters, just enjoy it but no, they can't let the inferiority complex that all Washingtonians have overcome their victory. And this means that if fans are allowed in the AA-ballpark in Washington on April 1, 2021, the Mets will have to be there while the 2019 World Series Flag is raised for a second time so these pathetic, know-nothing, front-runners, can say that it happened in front of the fans. Bite me.Anyway, this gave me 10 minutes not to think about the Supreme Court and directed my anger elsewhere so here's to a Mets win today because beating those bastards is never meaningless.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 I would like the Nationals to be confirmed for sole possession of last place before sundown.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Wonder if Dominic woke up with a colossal headache and bruised nose.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 I woke up with those and I spent the DH on the couch.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Nice bomb from Alonso.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 But not so good for Lugo.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 The fake crowd noise is oft times drowning out Howie. Truck people, make adjustments NOW!!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Author Posted September 27, 2020 Lugo has made his case for returning to the bullpen.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 The line by Howard Cosell late in his career after he turned against boxing comes to mind here: 'Don't they understand that they're conducting a case for the abolition of the sport?'And it's not just the score but the overall quality of play. I mean, Voth absolutely sukked in the 1st & 2nd inning and he's going to win this game in a walkover.Oh yeah, and it's an hour and a half into the game and not yet out of the 3rd frame.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 What's Matz's contract status? Can we non-tender him?
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Nice stories in the booth about Seaver and Gil Hodges.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Yeah, Matz was always paid year to year so far (good thing!!!) so he'll still be a year away from FA-gency next season [5 years + 99 days to start the '21 season]Even if they wanted to keep him they could still non-tender him and try to resign him as a FA but he's making "only" $5 mil this year so, based just on service time alone, I'm not sure they could come in much under that even coming off this horrible a year. Someone is likely to take a shot at a not-yet 30 y/o pitcher on a one-year shot.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 This auld season should be forgot. The dying gasp of Wilpon foolishness and incompetence.Begone, ye wretched refuse.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 But seriously, who would plunk down money on 2021 season tickets? We still haven't gotten a refund for our June 2020 tickets. Steve Cohen better Roto-Rooter Ye Auld Customer Service department while he's at it.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Are they laying down on Rojas and Hefner?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Author Posted September 27, 2020 At the Phillies missed the playoffs with a '07/'08-worthy collapse.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 The Mets finish tied with the champs. So therefore that.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Sugar coat it as we may this was an epically bad Mets team.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 So we out-hit the Nats today AND out-XBH them ... and yet somehow found a way to lose by a touchdown plus a field goal. The 11 walks allowed plus the HBP might have had something to do with it.
