Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 The Marlins bring their all their cooties to New York and the Mets try to build some momentum.Don Mattingly, currently filling out lineup cards with names of players he's scarcely been introduced to, has allegedly tapped Sandy Alcantara to start. Michael Wacha defends for the homies. If things work out, the Mets build a nice little bridge to deGrom Day, Andrés Giménez continues to establish himself as the greatest #60 in baseball history, and President Trump is removed from office.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Game is Friday the 7th, but we applaud your exuberance!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 5, 2020 Author Posted August 5, 2020 I honestly don't know what day it is.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 None of us doIts' early, but we need a sweep!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 I just realized what a good thread title this is!So what's up with the Marlins? Their ragtag team swept three from the Orioles the last few days. Did the Marlins slap together a decent team? Or are the Orioles really that hapless? This is a major opportunity for the Mets, and I hope they take advantage of it. If they can sweep the Marlins they'll be at .500, the division will be tightened up, and the Mets will be right in the heart of things. (And a .500 record is probably all that's necessary to make the playoffs.)
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 We have no idea who's even starting tonight. THEY seemingly don't, either. If it's not time this weekend for 1-2 iterations of the traditional Get Shut Down By an Unpedigreed Rookie Right-Hander, I don't know when it will be.

Did the Marlins slap together a decent team? Or are the Orioles really that hapless? The odd part is that they got mostly good pitching this past week [0 R / 4 H; 1 R / 4 H; 7 R / 11 H] despite having several of their better pitchers missing due to Covid. They did it by using 4, 5, and 5 pitchers in those games (iow, almost as many pitchers as hits allowed) w/only two guys going longer than 3 innings (including the guy who gave up most of the runs). On the other hand it was Baltimore and the Marlins won those games by 1, 1, and 1 run
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Booyah! Mets win the moment our house gets its' power backLugo is one serious all star caliber relieverLGM!
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Let's kick some fin this weekend, take care of these faux-firstplace fishsticks!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 So the rookie in his debut K'd the side, although with an Alonso 2B mixed in.On the other hand he didn't figure to go long in this game anyway and the fact that it took him nearly 30 pitches to get through the frame likely shortened his outing by an inning.Wacha had already K'd the side in top one but managed to do so w/no hits and in a more reasonable 19 pitches.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Is Wacha going to get ANY borderline calls tonight? There have been about 6-to-8 just-on/just-off pitches by him tonight and I don't think he's had a single one go his way so far.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Good, give this guy the hook, he's as unhittable as every guy who ever made his MLB debut against the Mets. Get into that fleshy undercoating that is the Marlins' pen.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Between the rain and the pitch counts (both sides) this one is going to take a while.Bottom of the 3rd and we're already closing in on an hour and a half.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Dear Brandon,Either look at the ball (which got by the LFer) or the 3B coach (who was telling you to keep running), don't GUESS! You cost the team a run.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 Hard times when you have to tell Nimmo to get his head in the game.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 Also, where does Cervelli get off hitting a homer?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 It's a weird game. A million strikeouts, but most of the balls put in play are dropping in.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 I feel like the Mets are being beaten by some daytrippers here.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Game's kinda sucking fin through five.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Lot of misfires from the Piss Missile Launcher this year.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Shreve looks pretty good. He's got the lefty juice that I think Daniel Zamora couldn't show us this year.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 Terrific pick. Now let's get Shreveport a couple of hits.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 The Mets haven't reached base since Nimms got stuck at third.Gots to strike while the iron is heated.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Hell of an effort tonight against one minor league pitcher after another.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Our defensive renaissance lasted exactly one game.In two consecutive plays we turned three outs into one.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Rosario is wearing Cespedes' neon compression stocking, hence the power
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 These super-drying fields can lead to some scary divots on days like this.
