whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Saw the play last night in Williamsport...had a question. At the end when the fellow shows up and leaves with the fiddler, who is he? In the play last night he looked to have on a modern red jacket, as though he's a tourist
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Hard to answer because "Fiddler", whether in story, on film or in theater, has been given different endings. Also, who is "the fellow?'
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 That's just it! My husband thought it was the actor playing Tevye but Mom and I didn't think so
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 it's Tevye. Its always been Tevye. The recent Broadway revival had a director restaging the show with a "framing device", with Tevye in modern dress becoming the Tevye in the story. He wore a red fleece to denote his "modernity".
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 So hubby was right...What was his purpose?I thought maybe as a modern person coming across the remains of the civilization? It's great to think that a Tevye survivor was there. It was an awesome production. One night only...sleety day/evening but a pretty full house. We won't soon forget it

Thank you Vic! I knew someone here could help me!
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 is it the first time you've seen FIDDLER?
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 Yes it is. My moms third time, once on Broadway, once at Millbrook Playhouse (near here) and now in Williamsport
