Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 Does ESPN feel like they get some kind of brownie points for carrying the MFY 7th inning stretch dog-and-pony show, or do you suppose that they are actually obligated contractually to show it?I know it's a holiday and all, though not specifically a patriotic one, and that they probably don't do this with all NFY home games. But while you can understand why YES shows it (orders from above) that MLB even allows them special dispensation for an extended mid-inning break 81 times per year is puzzling enough (you can show the anthem OR you can show your commercials, but not both) butwhy does a network get in line with the propaganda if not under orders to do so?2-0 Rangers thru 7. Former Brave Mike Minor throwing a gem for Texas so he will of course not return for the 8th.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 We had a version of God Bless America Sunday at Comerica Park. I liked it. On television, I'd rather watch that than another commercial or college football promo crammed in there.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2019 Author Posted September 2, 2019 I have no problem if the Yanx want to do it (even though it only started post-9/11 because George liked to pretend he invented patriotism), and am fine if they want to televise it.But they shouldn't get to televise it AND THEN ALSO run their two minutes of commercials adding down-time to a game which already has too much. And just because the local TV is under orders to show it shouldn't mean that a network is required to follow suit.Yanx wound up losing 7-zip, first time they've been shut out all season (10 times with just 1 run) and the first time in 221 straight games (June 30th of 2018)

Lorenzen?https://www.mlb.com/news/michael-lorenzen-homers-notches-win-for-reds?partnerId=ed-14376837-1165042963https://www.mlb.com/news/michael-lorenzen-homers-notches-win-for-reds?partnerId=ed-14376837-1165042963There have been many other pitchers/ position players, but I always thought Vic Davalilo would do this. (He pitched 185 games in the minors, but only 2 in the majors)Later
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 I'm a Lorenzen fan, he's probably one of the Reds best hitters -- and a big win for the SHaMs.I wonder how good JDD could be on the mound for the Mets.

I'd be curious to see him face a few hitters.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 The Phillies, coming to Citi Field tomorrow, lost today and used 11 pitchers (if that matters in September). The really bad thing is that Vargas pitched today so the Mets won't face him.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Some red hot Thursday afternoon action is just winding up.-- Reds walk-off the Phillies in the bottom of the 11th (HR - Phillip Ervin)Phils won the first two games of that mid-week series but Reds came back to split the four. And while this matters somewhat less after Sept 1st, that the Phils used 8 relievers on the eve of a series with us is never a bad thing. Too bad it didn't go 19 with the same result.-- Cards thumping the Giants. 10-0 last I looked. They'll wind up taking 3 of 4 in that series-- And Trout just hit his 45th HR to tie Alonso for the ML lead.-- Thursday night sees the start of two four-game series important to us.Nats @ BravesCubs @ Brewers

dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 In the Marlins - Pirates game last night, Brian Moran struck out his brother Colin in Brian's ML debut, for his first career strikeout, and got the W.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 ^|||That's pretty cool.Meanwhile tonight, the Cubs lost (to Milwaukee), the Nats lost, the Cards lost, while the DBacks are winning (7-5 in Cincy, in the 8th).Oh yeah, and the Fillies lost.
