The first place Braves come to town with Mike Soroka on the mound

Both pitchers are terrific. For now they hit better than us

Beautiful weather

I think today is 6/28.

Currently holding down Mikkeller, followed by section 112 if any of y'all are in tha house tonight. I know about the new backpack policy, but I couldn't find anything in the fine print about giant “WILPON OUT” signs. Asking for a friend. #LGM

Pitch counts thru 3 innings: deGrom = 57; Soroka = 28

It's evened out a little bit since then, but that's not a recipe for success as it's yet another night where a NYM pitcher gets himself into a foul-ball-a-thon.

So Brian McCann was signed in the off-season by the Braves despite being a 35 y/o, 225 lb (yeah, right!) catcher whose OPS dropped 119 points last year (w/Houston) compared to where it had been in '17

and was more than 320 points below his career high which came in his first full season in 2006 He's also, in my mind, probably the player most adversely affected by the advent of defensive shifts.

Now granted he's only playing a bit less than half time now meaning he takes very few ABs vs LHP, but the result is his best OPS in nine seasons and, perhaps not surprisingly, about 200 points higher

than Cano's at the moment when last season those spots were almost exactly reversed. iow, there's been nearly a 400 point swing just between those two players.

Cano is 16 months older than McCann although his age isn't being measured in catcher's years.

So you remember when we talked about all that good fortune the Braves had last year? Well it's happening again.

35 y/o part-timers are having near career years and, aside for a platoon at catcher and the switch in LF (Riley in for Inciarte), every player is playing every virtually game.

And so it continues.

Gsellman was the only pitcher not to give up a run vs Philly in the recent series [2 G, 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB]

But now, 1 inning with 3 runs on 3 hits as he retired 3 of the 7 batters he faced. I guess the only thing you can

say about it is that he didn't give up a lead while doing so. No, he just took a game where the Mets had nearly

closed up a deficit that had existed from the 1st inning and turned it into one that was bigger than it had been

at any point in the game and with only two innings remaining. And he did it all by hisself with no help, ever

from the defense.

Why? All a hit there would have done was gotten us a lead, and I sure as shit didn't want one of those.

But Jeff was in the team store, as (holy crap!) was Jake,

And the former was a lulu and the latter was a flake;

Then upon that stricken multitude, grim sadness did resound,

For there seemed but little promise, once relievers reached the mound.

Was a wild surprise and pleasure to meet you, bmfc. Mighta been the sole pleasure of the night (the Mikkeller beers and the Alonso bomb were pretty good, to be fair).

The yard was as nice as I remembered, what beautiful skies there when the sun is setting. The people around me were great, too. But damn, the plight of this current team is upsetting. I went to the bar in right field after the game and people in their giveaway shirts were dancing to pop songs and having fun and I was like WHY AREN'T YOU MAD LIKE I AM!?! I was looking to commiserate with fellow malcontents and got Duran Duran instead. Off to non-Mets vacation so I can chill out a little.

This game is fun, damn it.
