Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 That's a buttload of money, but if anyone deserves it, it's Mike Trout.
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 All of those reports on the Yankees passing on Machado/Harper because Arenado/Harper are coming up soon -- HA.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Trout has more career WAR than Harper and Machado combined.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Kinda puts a top on salary growth for a bit, doesn't it? Like, "You want $36M AAV? You think you're NEAR Trout-good?"
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Mike Trout better than Bryce HarperDidn't think that was even debatable. The big risk, of course, is that Trout is 1-1/2 years older than Harper and the rumored contract, in addition to being more expensive, will also be two years longer. This puts the Angels on the hook for Trout until he's 3-1/2 years older before it all ends as compared to where Philly will be with Harper.

Trout will be filthy rich while playing for the lower-profile team of two in a region that is hardly passionate about baseball. Now, hopefully, we can close off any discussion about him becoming famous.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Tracky, the Angels had the second-best attendance in the league last season.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 It all feeds into the time difference and the idea that Trout only exists after everyone east of the Mississippi has gone to bed so if east coasters aren't there to see it did it really happen? Now add in Houston's Alex Bregman: a 5 year / $100 million extension which apparently kicks in after this current season where his contract was already decided. He starts 2019 at just over 2 years ML service time so he's probably cheap this year [oe: 'renewed' by the Astros at $640,500]. So the extension covers his his three arb years plus his first two FA seasons.Bregman, a former #2 overall draft pick (2015 out of LSU), turns 25 next week and was 6th in the AL in position player WAR last year [behind Betts, Trout, Chapman Ramirez, Lindor] and 5th in MVP [betts, Trout, Ramirez, JD Martinez]
