A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 [tweet:29lz8cep] [/tweet:29lz8cep]Was exclusively a starter last year but excelled in 2k17 as a reliever. Is owed $9.8M for each of the next two seasons. What bad contract + prospect is Brodie trying to unload?

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Pretty soon we'll be hearing that Brodie is offering Syndergaard and Rosario. And maybe Conforto and Nimmo too.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Like him a lot as a reliever. Kinda expensive for what he is if I recall correctly.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 If your agent is doing his job, he tells you to pick 10 teams with big markets or big budgets to put on your no-trade list, if you have the juice to get one. They'd be the teams most likely to throw in some extra $$ to get you to waive your rights.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Minor was one of the best lefty set-up guys in the league in 2017. He is also a better option as a starter than Jason Vargas is -- his 116 ERA+ as a starter last season beats Vargas' career high comfortably, even if the 164 IP is nothing to get excited about. I'd have to see the price, but he wouldn't be a bad get.

LOLOLOLNote that he says big budgets OR big markets. But jokes aside, whenever this happens someone will inevitably interpret the N-T clause as proof said player hates the Mets, doesn't want to play in NYC, and is likely to fail if/when he does. When instead, it's more a case of trying to guess which teams might trade for you and, by eliminating them, it helps to nudge a partial no-trade into more of a full no-trade and therefore have a bit better control over your future.Minor was once a #7 overall draft pick - by the Braves in 2009 out of Vanderbilt. That was one slot after Zach Wheeler, six after Steven Strasburg, and, as is required to be pointed out with all 2009 1st round draftees, 18 slots ahead of Mike Trout.
