Not sure if he is really out or if this was just housekeeping to prevent having to put him on the 40-man.

Either way, it is still perplexing to me how someone can receive a "lifetime ban" only to be reinstated after three years. It's like when SMU football got the "death penalty" back in the 80s only not really since they play football now and have been for many years.

The deadline for finalizing the 40-man roster ahead of next month's Rule 5 draft is tonight (8 PM EST) so the timing is shirley not a coincidence.

The Mets would have had to offer him arbitration to maintain his services, so he is now a free agent. For what that's worth.

Is it possibly a release where they don't want to offer him arbitration, but are still willing to work out a deal? The minimum he could have gotten in arbitration was $1.4M apparently. They might be interested for something closer to the MLB minimum or even just a minor league deal.

He was eligible to apply for reinstatement after two. I'm sure that was a policy the union insisted on.

Considering the shelf life of an athlete, there's really no point to allowing an opportunity for reinstatement if a guy has to wait 15 or 20 years to be eligible.

Where's yours Batmags?

I keep on forgetting the passwords to my Flickr accounts and cant find where I wrote them down. I've probably got about a half a dozen accounts with images floating around and I can't access them. When I'm in the mood, I'll open up another account, I guess, and post my Mejia banned cards. If I remember, they were very Peter Maxie.

Possible, yes, although it's not like they didn't have time to work out something if they really wanted to. And as of yesterday, Mejia can talk to every other team too.
