A survey of five baseball writers on NL midseason awards. The panel unanimously votes deGrom the NL Cy Young award winner if the season were to end today. Remarkably, the majority of the panel would also vote deGrom the NL MVP winner. Tremendous analytical progress being that deGrom's on pace to finish the season with not even 10 wins.

Yeah. It's sad. I've often thought about how deadly '85 Gooden would have been in the playoffs. Imagine if they had a wild card back then.

First-pitcher ever to win less than 7 games with a sub-.2.00 ERA
in first 20 starts of the season --

I felt so bad for him, he looked so pissed last night. Will he end up with more WAR than actual wins? It's a dead heat right now, 4.9 to 5.

6.2 rWAR though.

It's a nice example of the Mets poor offense, how good deGrom is, and a lot of luck. But it's pitcher wins and meaningless anyway.

At this point, I'm not sure how he's getting any sleep at night.

From Deadspin-- last night was the fifth game deGrom struck out 10 or more batters this season. In those games, deGrom pitched 36.1 innings to a 1.49 ERA with 58 Ks and just 7 walks. The Mets are 1-4 in those games.

I know you love to say pitcher wins are meaningless and to a degree, I agree with you. However, team wins are quite important and relevant. The Mets keep finding ways to not only prevent DeGrom from earning a win during his stellar starts, but they manage to consistently squander his incomparable pitching and lose the majority of his starts as a team.

pitchers pitch less and less! There've only been like 20 pitchers since '69 to even throw to less than a 2 ERA. They lose most of these deGrom starts because they lose most of their games period.

Mets have won .418 percent of their games.
Mets have won .400 of deGrom's games.

They're just not scoring enough in general.
