I was thinking that Frazier's return might be the end for Reyes. Then Wilmer got hurt. Given the way things go for us, someone else will be hurt before Wilmer returns. Reyes is like a remora fish that you see attached to sharks. They suck, they do damage to the host, but they're always hanging on.

We're down to eight Mets from the Opening Day roster being active every day of 2018.

And then there were seven, pending Cabrera's capacity to be carried along with a hamstring issue.

Bruce to DL, Tim Peterson coming back from Vegas, per Puma (the reporter, not the shoe).

den dekker should also be a relief pitcher.

Kelly was apparently unavailable because Vegas was playing a day game (like that's the Mets' problem?).

Since the Mets are stuck with Vargas for this year and next year, sorry, that was rude, he is under contract for this year and next year, if Noah ever returns perhaps Vargas could go to the bullpen as Blevins is "struggling" and it would give them another left-handed reliever.

With Lugo continuing to pitch well in the rotation, i do think Vargas is the odd man out once Thor gets back, regardless of his contract. But there is no reason to think he'll be any more effective in the pen. He'll likely just sit there and only get used in blowouts and as an extra spot starter, not as a "situational lefty" to make up for Blevins.

Meanwhile, we should release Reyes and Bautista, and send Guillorme down, and bring up McNeil, Kelly and an OFer (Borenstein, Kazmarski, denDekker or Brentz). as for the bullpen, Its time for Drew Smith to join Tim Peterson in Flushing, while Robles is staked on a field of ant hills.

Don't look now but Reyes is getting hot! Last 6 games he's batting .500 (3-6) with 2 walks, a double and 4 runs scored.

Positive contributor to the recent en fuego streako

HURRY UP TRADE HIM

our "hot streak" is comprised of winning 3 out of our last 4, where we've score 5+ runs in each game. During that stretch Reyes has contributed an 0-1, 1-3 (+bb), 0-1, and 0-0 (+bb), so i'd say his contributions had very little to do with our fuego-ness, such as it is.

And maybe you think he's poised for another hot second half, based on his 3-6 over 6 games. I don't. I think we're more likely to catch lightning in a bottle with McNeil. But either way, the team's future depends more on learning about McNeil rather than giving Reyes more ABs or (god forbid) innings in the field.

you overlooked my Sarcasm score. But, we don't have the big win Sunday without his hotness!

His platoon splits have never been noteworthy. I do think he's not 100% yet, so pitching fewer innings here would do him more good long-term than pitching more innings in Vegas. Plus, he couldn't be worse than a few of the Mets' relievers.

I'd actually like to see Guillorme get more at bats. He's supposed to be a plus-plus defender, and our defense is flat out bad right now. Plus, a .196 BABIP has to improve, right?

I'm encouraged by Peterson so far. Smith has also been holding his own in Vegas, which is good enough for a shot in the back of this bullpen.

regarding Robles: what type of ants are we talking?

My major concern with moving Vargas to the bullpen is that he will pitch in later innings, thereby giving the offense less time to get back the runs he gives up.

Sewald, Flexen remaining in a different time zone

Drew Smith and Kevin Kaczmarski setting their watches to EDT.

With Sewald's demotion, the Met who has the longest continual run on the active roster is Asdrubal Cabrera, available for every game since June 23, 2017. He IS POISED TO CELEBRATE his viability anniversary on Saturday.

As of Friday night, six Mets will have remained active for every game of 2018: Cabrera, Rosario, Reyes, Gsellman, Lugo and Matz.

There's a big IF missing there.

I assume you mean don't count elbows before they bark -- or perhaps there's a six-foot-six mystery infielder to whom you're referring.

If he needs to go on the DL immediately, the Mets will wait a few days.

Yeah, you don't want to rush into these things. Better to wait it out and play shorthanded, then pinch-hit him on, say, Monday to find out it's really injured and reset the ten-day clock. I'm sure Swarzak or Gsellman can play second for a few innings if need be.

Is that what can Swarzak can do? I'd already eliminated pitching.

Hey, if you take away those games where he gave up runs, he's got a 0.00 ERA.

well at least they took my suggestions on Kazmarski and Drew Smith. I'm anxious to see Smith; he's the guy we got for Duda and he could be the one RPer (of the many we got) from our late season dump fest that could be for real.

So how will Drew Smith be billed on the back of his uniform? "Smith" is already taken and "DSmith" creates confusion. "Drew"? "Drew Smith?" "The Guy WE Got for Duda"?

Sadly, the Mets (and most teams) no longer provide distinguishing initials or other information when two players share one surname. We had two Bautistas at once last month and nobody gave a shit. I thought it was disgraceful.

I had hoped an enterprising photographer would gather Bautista, Lobaton and Reyes for a Jose, Jose, Jose picture for the 2019 yearbook, though I don't expect any of them will be here by then.

But maybe THE SMITH BROTHERS.
