Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 I don't really like the 2000 cover, the psychedelic swirl thing is a bit too trippy, but I voted for 2000 because it's certainly better than a closeup of a Mets jacket. It seems like in the down years, the Mets are more likely to feature uniforms and equipment on their yearbook covers. I suppose they feel that they don't really have players to promote, but as someone who was a Mets fan in 1979, I would have been quite happy to see Lee Mazzilli, Steve Henderson, and John Stearns on the cover of the yearbook. One thing I do like about the 1979 cover: Somebody decided that it would be appropriate to include Flushing's ZIP Code. I guess that means that if you don't like your yearbook, you can just drop it in the mail and it would be returned directly to Shea Stadium.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Just noticing for the first time that offseason additions Hampton, Zeile and Bell are integrated among the 1999 heroes. It was prior to 9/11/01, so I feel comfortable using that word for baseball players. 2000 reflecting the achievements of 1999 was the strong suit of that year's marketing. Kind of weird seeing Derek Bell's Spring Training cap adjacent to the Grand Slam Single being celebrated. But anything that invokes the successes of 1999 so strongly is going to be wonderful to stare at for a while.I hated the 1979 cover when it appeared. It was a give-up signaling a season of giving up. I sort of appreciate the accidental beauty of it four decades removed from the emotions, but I can't escape the 1979ness of it all.2000 for the win.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 2000 may be too busy, but its a great blend of previous year’s highlights and preview of what could be.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 The insignia idea would work better if it was a clean, sharp image of the hat insignia. The breast insignia patch from a warmup jacket just highlights the patch's imperfections and makes the enterprise feel cheap. Which, in 1979, it certainly was.
