This broke a few weeks before the ceremony date:http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/20208447/woman-accuses-pete-rose-statutory-rapeI see he admits to having sex with the girl, but thought that she was 16 at the time (not that that makes it right. He was a married man). And then she says they had sex in other states besides Ohio? Boy, that young gal gets around. Did Pete pay for the travel expenses? She doesn't bother to say, as well as which states they found hay to roll around in. Sounds a little fishy to me. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if he did know she was younger and still decided to dip his stick.Dowd's statement that Rose boinked 12-14 year old girls (plural) sounds like nothing but trumped up bullshit. But then Rose won't answer any questions about it under oath? More fishy business. If that's true, I feel its a way worse offense than his gambling. It'll be interesting to see how his suit against Dowd goes. I've already gone on record saying he won't get in until after he's pushing up daisies. Then at some point he will get in, warts and all. Don't mean to sidetrack the thread. Carry on.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 John Dowd works for President Trump, when most Washington attorneys wouldn't touch him, so I'm reluctant to endorse him for anything. And he's 76 now, and facts from days past tend to get rubbery as time recedes and arteries harden, but the Dowd Report is 28 years old, and in substance, it's held up. Every part of it.That Rose's defense is reduced to arguing not against the basic facts of the case, which he acknowledges, but against nuance of what he knew and what state he was in, suggests he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Betting on games, being a prolific liar, and an egotistical ass pales in comparison to statutory rape.

I thought the Dowd thing just dealt with his gambling issues. Then after that we learned what a liar and BIG headed idiot he was.

Dropping a bomb that he was doing 12-14 year old kids flippantly on a radio talk show, and considering the timing, it's akin to propaganda.I don't like Dowd. Not too thrilled with Petener either, but I have to respect his baseball accomplishments. And after '73 he'd have had to accomplished a lot to rise to any level of respect in my book.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I don't know. If you're confident in the information, and it's relevant to the question at hand, you share it. And as it turns that he has the source to back it up, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Dowd should share his info through the proper channels, not as radio gossip. Maybe he did, and if he did I wouldn't be considering it to be gossip ( there's no evidence of that), but that radio thing, THE TIMING! Pete was just about to be allowed back into a baseball spotlight and Dowd smacks him down, while making it sound like the allegations of statutory rape were a side bar ("....isn't that lovely?").
