Thanks for the replies guys. I was spoiled when I lived in NJ cuz my company had season tickets behind third. Have been monitoring eBay for a few days now to see what I am going to be able to do. Some of the prices are crazy and there is no way I am going to spend over $ 150.00 on a ticket if I can't see the outfield or something like that. It costs me enough just to get up there for the game as it is.

Can someone advise how far back in the rows you can safely go in the Loge and Mezz Reserved before your view is obstructed? Anyone know if row F is safe or not?

Just got this email. I feel so empty inside now. I thought we were close. Dear Mets Fan: Thank you for participating in the online random drawing for the opportunity to purchase tickets to Opening Day and the Subway Series games to be played at Shea Stadium. We are sorry to inform you that your entry was not selected in this drawing. Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you at Shea in 2007. The New York Mets

I just got an email from mets.com that says you have to register now to have the privilege of buying single game tickets for opening day....only if you are one of the lucky people to be selected in a random drawing after registering.

I can't comment about the Tivo issue since I know nothing about it. I can tell you that you can get a HD receiver with DVR from DirecTV and everyone I know who has that loves it. Originally, I switched from cable (Comcast in NJ) to DirecTV just for the NFL Sunday ticket and the college football package (lived with two other guys, we had 6 TV's and a serious gambling problem). I have been a DirecTV customer for about 6 years now and have no complaints at all. I actually couldn't imagine going back to cable. I regards to the weather issue, I think some of the concerns are way overblown. I live in Savannah where we have regular, daily downpours in the summer and my TV never goes out. It takes monsoon-like conditions for it to lose the signal. Yancy, if you were going to move to DirecTV, I don't think keeping cable would be necessary. It takes one hell of a storm to lose the signal, and the signal is not lost for very long if it does go out. Incidently, the national average for outages for cable are 3-5% per year, while DirecTV is at 1%. What I don't understand is why MLB would want to limit thier audience for thier product. I understand that $ 700 million is a lot more then $ 70 million, but what about the economic effect of not showing your product to as many people? Cable, DirecTV and Dish Network have a combined 98 million subscribers. DirecTV is only 15 million of that total. Sure, some people will move to DirecTV to continue to receive the extra innings package, but you can't expect all 83 million to so you lose that much exposure of your product.

What about the VSL Mets of the Venezuelan Summer League?

God, this team can't even procreate right.

KC wrote: I think it's total bullshit what they do (in case my profanity laden tirade this morning didn't make that clear). It's a silly little microcosm of an example, but here's two people in Yance and Mrs. Field's who love baseball (run state of the art fan site/plan vacations around which ballpark they haven't visited yet) and they are totally dissed by the very product they adore. I'm writing Sealeg a letter tommorow. I'm shouting at the wind, but that's the way I look at it. Of course, they could just get Direct TV.

So far I am the lone wolf here. I don't see anything happening between now and spring training, but some time before first pitch in St. Louis, I expect (hope?!?) that a deal will be made to bring in a top of the rotation pitcher. Here's to Lastings Milledge tearing the cover off of the ball in March.

http://savannahnow.com/node/210095 Mets hire Teufel to manage Sand Gnats Sports Noell Barnidge | Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 12:30 am Tim Teufel, a member of the 1986 World Series champion New York Mets, on Wednesday was named manager of the Savannah Sand Gnats. The 48-year-old former Clemson All-American second baseman has spent five of the last six years coaching in the Mets' minor-league system. He has compiled a 113-96 record in three seasons as a minor-league manager. Teufel, who played 11 years in the majors, including six with the Mets, replaces Bobby Williams, 30, who was 56-83 as the Sand Gnats' manager last season. The Washington Nationals were the major-league affiliate for Savannah the last two years, but the Nationals terminated their relationship with the Sand Gnats on Sept. 20, 2006. The Mets signed a two-year Player Development Contract with the Sand Gnats on Sept. 27, 2006, to serve as their low-Class A affiliate. Teufel played at Grayson Stadium when he was a member of the Southern League's Class AA Orlando (Fla.) Twins from 1980-82, and they played the Savannah Braves. His last visit to the Coastal Empire was in 1982. "I didn't get to do much, tourist-wise," Teufel said, laughing. "I was making about $700 a month, and had about $10 a day for meal money. But I know Savannah is a really nice city, very historic. I'm looking forward to it. I'm a big fan of the Food Network, and I know you guys have The Lady & Sons there, so I'll be visiting Paula Deen's establishment quite a bit." Teufel intends to cook up a winner on the field. He managed the 2003 Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets' New York-Penn League affiliate, to a division championship with a 47-28 record. Prior to managing, he spent two seasons as the Mets' roving infield instructor. In 2004 and 2005, Teufel managed the St. Lucie Mets, New York's Florida State League affiliate in Port St. Lucie, Fla., going 66-68. He was replaced by Hall of Famer Gary Carter, a fellow member of the 1986 World Series champion Mets. Teufel spent last year as an owner of a tile establishment in Port St. Lucie, but he said he is "in the process of dissolving that partnership." "I love coaching," he said. "I love being around the game. You get the itch. You love the game. It's easy to come back. It wasn't a hard decision." Teufel said he will arrive in Savannah the first week of April. Opening Day is April 5 against the Asheville (N.C.) Tourists at 7:05 p.m. at Grayson Stadium. He intends to field a competitive team. "I manage the game to win," Teufel said. "I'll sacrifice bunt. I like to move the runners over. I'll steal. I like to hit and run, moving runners over to third with less than two outs. It's about doing all those little things. That produces winning baseball. "In our organization we like to win at every level possible. My primary concern is to give these guys a place to play where they can get better, hone their skills and get to the next level." In 1986, Teufel was 4-for-9 hitting in the seven-game World Series against the Boston Red Sox, including a home run in Game 5. He started at second base in Game 1, and his error on a routine grounder by Rich Gedman allowed Jim Rice to score the game's only run. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE TEUFEL FILE Age: 48 Hometown: Greenwich, Conn. Residence: Jupiter, Fla. Family: Lives with Valerie, his wife of 25 years, and their daughters, Kelly and Amber. Kelly is a high school sophomore, Amber is a sixth-grader. 3 year deal for a LOOGY? Righties take him deep every 21 AB's. I don't see how this makes sense unless it is a prelude to another move.
-
But someone might want to give him a link to a hot stove web site or at least a list of free agents when it comes to the Mets outfield http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2726797 Not exactly sure if he is questioning LoDuca's will to win or what he is trying to say here. I don't know of anyone questioning PLD's effort on the field.

metsguyinmichigan wrote: But really, how can any of the people who did not vote for Ripken or Gwynn justify that? One of the voting writers was on MLB on XM this morning. It is the guy who has been referred to in other threads and responses. Besides the steroid issue (which according to him, anyone who played between 1993 and 2004 does not deserve a first ballot vote) he said he will never vote for someone on their first ballot because 11 writers didn't vote for Babe Ruth in 1936 and Cy Young wasn't even elected on his (the) first ballot and 48 people didn't vote for him in 1937 when he was enshrined.

On ESPN Insider right now, Buster Olney has an article up "Identifying contenders' top needs" and he leads off with the Mets. Anyone got a subscription and want to summarize for us?

Daisuke Matsuzaka -Let The Bidding Begin.

Starting to seem like the Red Sox never really intended to sign this guy and just ridiculously overbid in the posting process to ensure he didn't go somewhere else (NYY). -
Given the annual offseason infatuation with him, anyone else think that now more then ever Manny might be in left field at Shea considering the Sox are about to dump 11,756,666,596.45 yen for a pitcher?

So much for fostering dialog.

Who is the lone dissenter amongst us? I'd be interested in hearing why they voted no.

Ah, its only 12 and a half, 13 tops Frayed. This is the coolest thing since I got to see the player traded for Victor Zambrano pitch against the Gnats right before he was promoted out of low A. If by some chance anyone does venture down and times the visit with a ballgame feel free to get in touch. I have season tickets with plenty of seats for anyone. Grayson Stadium is undergoing a $5 Million renovation this offseason too (on edit: which is clearly stated in the article posted above that I did not read before posting!). Come on Thirsty Thursday, cuz its 2 for 1!
