  3. I know right? That's horrible. Shame on them.

  5. ="metirish"]They are building a new cityscape with cheap plywood, it will be slathered with green paint to signify all the money that will be generated. Sponsored by Subway. And then, 20 years from now, when some kid asks why a big Italian sub gets launched out of the scoreboard everytime a Met hits a homerun, his dad will tell him 'Um, its an homage to...um....something.'
  6. AG/DC wrote: "The Magic Is Back" campaign didn't reference the Dodgers but the Mets champions of 1969 and 1973. I didn't realize Jackie Robinson was on those teams.
  7. You know what I really like? The cityscape on top of the scoreboard. When that thing lights up after a homerun, it is totally cool. I don't see that going over to the new place.
  8. ] No home run apple at core of Mets' new ballpark BY Anthony McCarron & Adam Rubin DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITERS It looks like it will be a refreshing return to respectability after the Mets belt home runs at Citi Field. The Mets had hoped to keep their intentions quiet for now about whether they would transfer the apple from Shea to their new stadium or commission a new one. But they inadvertently upstaged their own announcement. An official with ties to the team revealed on a late-night airing of a special about Citi Field on SNY that they will, in fact, be loading up the old, nasty thing with dynamite and blowing the wormy piece of crap to the moon. 'New apple?' The official was quoted as saying 'Are you fucking kidding me? The only reason this big red piece of shit is still here is because Della Famina had some compromising pictures of Fred's wife.' The apple is a nine-foot mass of fiberboard slathered in red paint that, looks like an overripe tomato. When it works and a Met blasts a homer, it creaks slowly out of a 10-foot, upside-down black top hat - that looks more like a giant baby's potty-training seat - made of plywood. The Mets logo on the apple lights up and blinks (again - when it works). The phrase "home run," which replaced the original "Mets Magic," an offshoot of the Mets' old and tired "The Magic is Back" campaign, which attempted to lure people in to Shea by trying to fool them into thinking the Brooklyn Dodgers had returned to New York, is visible on the toddler toilet. The apple, all 582 pounds of it, appeared behind the fence, to the right of the 410-foot mark in center field, during the 1980 season. Reasonable Met fans can now rejoice. I can dream can't I?
  9. 8-6 Philly, bottom 8.
  10. Out the rest of this year and next. Buh-bye Billy.
  11. As a kid I remember choosing between watching Yankee post-season games on PIX with the local Yankee guys (if memory serves it was Rizzuto / White) or NBC with Garagiola and Scully maybe? That'd be cool if it were still like that and we could watch Gary Keith and Ron on SNY do postseason Met games.

I like how it seems as if everyone sacked up just a little bit and got a just little tougher, and we beat the bushes and plugged the hero void with Stokes and Ayala. Maine is prolly the bigger loss, but we're gonna get by there too, I hope. I agree. I realize that Wagner is a top-echelon guy but he was having a pretty up and down year. Ayala is 6 of 7, hard hit or not. Lunchables made a good point about him throwing strikes - 1 walk in 10 innings since he's been here. I'm not saying that he's better than Wagner but the bullpen as presently situated is working.
  13. Gary tonight referring to the Nationals playing very well lately: "That's called a 'dead cat bounce'". Love that.
  14. Don't begrudge him. Dude has a sweet gig.
  15. 1. DH. 1A. Network television control and MLB not giving a rat's ass to the extent that a Sunday afternoon game that I planned to take my kids to months ago that they were excited about, where they would get a Johann Santana bobblehead and run the bases after the game, got rescheduled to an 8:00 pm starting time with the kids having school on Monday so they can't go.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: If I could go back in time and revise history, I would have given two of the 1969 expansion teams different names: I'd call the Montreal franchise the Royals, and the Kansas City franchise the Monarchs. This a fun exercise that we've done before. What should the expansion teams been named? Colorado Rockies - Denver Bears Florida Marlins - Miami Marlins (just might get my wish on this one - name change to 'Miami' is supposedly one of the new stadium conditions) Arizona Diamondbacks - Phoenix Rattlers or Rattlesnakes Tampa Bay Devil Rays/Rays - for some stupid reason I liked Tampa Bay Manatees. No idea why, I know it's a bad, if not worse, than the actual name. San Diego Padres - Perfect Los Angeles Angels - fine. Houston Colt .45s/Astros - Houston Rockets Toronto Blue Jays - if Blue Jays are indigenous to Toronto, fine. Seattle Mariners - I like this one a lot.

  18. ="metsguyinmichigan"]Not that exciting. When I was a kid, we had a trip to that animal place that used to be out the island (might still be there, but I've forgotten the name. ) We had to pick an animal and study it for a couple hours. I picked a bison -- it didn't do a hell of a lot for those two hours, I tell you -- and got marked down big time for calling a it buffalo and not a bison. Boooo. I was hoping it had something to with these big honkin' horns.
  19. metsguyinmichigan wrote: What everybody calls a buffalo is actually a bison. I learned this the hard way. My curiousity is peaked.
  20. metsguyinmichigan wrote: (And I realize that there is a difference between a buffalo and a bison.) There is? What's the diff?
  21. Most of them sure, but a lot of kids did stay through the summer. I remember going to more than a few games a year.
  22. As a student at SU from '83-'87 there was always a very large portion of the student body that hailed from the NYC area - especially Long Island. Having a ready-made base of transplanted Mets fans in Syracuse as a result would be a great thing for the team.
  23. Church - 2.5 Perez - 2 Murphy - 1 Schneider - 1 Wright - 1 Beltran - .75 Delgado - .75 Sanchez - .5 Schoenweis - .5
  24. Syracuse, because: 1) MFS62's mother's family is from Buffalo 2) It's a helluva lot closer than Buffalo 3) I'm a Syracuse alum, so it makes it easier to root for a team with "Syracuse" across its chest.
