  1. Tough crowd....HEY K-Rod in in a tie game in the 9th! Amazazing!
  2. Yes and no. I would venture to guess that its mostly about real estate and development deals. Just so happens that sports franchises dovetail nicely with that in that area right now.
  3. That's what I would've done.
  4. I was telling my son the other day that Matthews has been so bad that the Mets could replace him on the roster with me and there would be no difference. You know what's scary about that statement? It's true.
  5. Those who saw it: Nice catch?
  6. MFS62 wrote: After reading that story, the sports guy on WCBS Radio noted that the Mets accused the Phillies of the same thing earlier this year. Did any CPF-ers hear about that? Or was it not made (too) public? Article wrote: The Rockies are the second team that's filed a complaint about the Phillies, according to a source close to the situation. It's believed the New York Mets made a similar accusation after the Phillies knocked around Mets left-hander Johan Santana on May 2. Yeah - that was the Santana game. There were rumblings after that game.
  7. Since when it is it illegal?
  8. Thoughts on Edgy's Thoughts: - I read the whole post but after 'Tumblesnatch' I lost focus. - I think you're selling the Japanese players short. They're pro athletes, as are all the players and since they've been pro they've all had to deal with being far from home and dealing with unfamiliar cultures. I don't think the Japs have cornered the market on detachment. You may have something with the Zen thing though. - Riggleman changing pitchers with a 5 run lead at Citi and the Mets looking pretty lethargic. I can see why he did it but I'm a Mets fan. If I'm a Nats fan, I'm bullshit this morning. - If they take today's game and continue the home dominance they've begun to show then the team starts to believe that Citi is in fact a decided adavantage for them. Only good things follow.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: The biggest snag with the Islanders wasn't the lease with the Coliseum but with the mgmt company that's paid to run the arena, parking, concessions, etc. That was a deal signed during a period of absentee ownership which gives the team gets a ridiculously small pct of all of the above and that agreement runs for about a billion years. Only the presence of a real good cable TV contract has kept the Islanders afloat all these years - and even that's not nearly as (comparatively) good as it used to be. I knew it was something like that. I think that agreement has killed the team's chance to move once already (Kansas City).

Guessing that the legal hassles to move out the current owners and tennants would last about as long as it did to do the same in Brooklyn (it seemed to last longer than the Punic Wars), by that time, the Brooklyn arena will be completed. Why bother? Old news - that's not an issue anymore. The City has taken control of the vast majority of the land there and the biggest companies there have already relocated or have agreed to. The projects to built there are no longer a matter of 'if' but 'when'. An arena there would be a great complement to Citi Field. With the baseball stadium and a hockey/hoops arena combined with the tennis center, you'd have year-round activity and a valid reason to build hotels, apartments and restaurants out there. It's a great idea.
  11. MFS62 wrote: Since it will be at least two years to build a new arena for the Isles, why not wait for the new Brooklyn arena? Soccer, is that an indoor league? Or are they saying they'd build a specialized outdoor soccer place? In Queens? Where? Later MLS is outside. Build it in the Iron Triangle - right next to Citi.
  12. I missed this entire game. Woe is me.
  13. I think that's great news for Islanders fans and the Willets Point area, but don't the Islanders have some ridiculous lease agreement with the Coliseum? Am I wrong in thinking that a big reason that the Islanders are stuck in the situation that they are in is because they just cannot find a way out of that agreement with Nassau County?
  14. Meanwhile if Bay would just get a hit in a big spot here and there - we wouldn't be having this discussion.
  15. I didn't see that - guess I'll pass now. The thought of these kids thinking they actually created something worth watching, and then having that legitimized by winning an award bothers me - "Yay, let's hear it for substandard crap made with little or no effort!" I was going to comment on the website, but then I thought that all that would do would be to bum out those three kids who were clearly excited they won something and I would just end up looking like some bitter, jealous, frustrated artist myself (not that I'm not, but I don't need my community knowing that). Maybe its better to just let the winning of this award let them think they have 'something' and leave the the reality slap to some college film professor down the road.
  16. This was on my town's website: Click here to view it Curious, I clicked on the link to view the 'film'. Now, I'm all for kids being given license to be creative but after watching this thing, I was shocked. Why the hell would this thing win any type of award? How about a script? How about a story? How about something other than profanity? Is there any talent in this? To me its 3 kids with a video camera cracking themselves up with 9th grade humor. Am I wrong? I suppose it just speaks to this 'Youth Film Festival' being completely lame.

  18. I'm a college graduate and I only drink socially. Suck on that Sophia.
  19. From HowardStern.com: Howard welcomed Wade McGilberry and his wife, Katy, to the studio and reported that Wade had recently won a million dollars in the MLB 2K10 Perfect Game Competition. Katy said Wade wasn't much of a videogamer before he'd heard of the contest, but had nailed the prize on the first day of competition: "I wouldn't say he's a very strong videogamer...but when he does play, he figures things out very quickly." Wade told Howard he knew he had a chance at the prize when he'd successfully pitched 7 perfect innings: "I was sweatin big time...I just gave a big 'woo' at the end and that was it." Wade told the crew he and Katy planned to tithe 10% of his winnings to their church--an idea Howard thought was almost as crazy as their relatively chaste courtship. On their way out, Katy marveled at her husband's feat: "They said they didn't know that it could be done."
  20. McDingleberry and his wife were on Howard Stern this morning. -He and his wife were both virgins when they met and did not have sex until they were married. -They are God-fearing folk and 10% of that million (before taxes) will be donated to the church. Howard tried hard to talk them out of that. -Yes, they have both sinned in their lives. She by lying after she fell off a couch she wasn't supposed tio be sitting on, he, by skipping class when he was in college. YAWN...
  21. Yay! Vagina cotton!
  22. That's what she said.
