  1. Yup. Got me too.

  3. So it's a shirt for Mets fans? Good luck to the sellers. I wouldn't be caught dead in it.
  4. I agree. What is that shirt supposed to mean? That the Mets wish they were the Phillies? That the Phillies are going to be bad like the Mets? That the Phillies 'own' the Mets? I don't get it.

But you know, in spring training hyperbole is the order of the day and I figured if Emaus' name was being mentioned with Uggla's, that would have made some news. It didn't and I wondered if perhaps Leitch was just making that up to support his thesis.
  6. I think if an Emaus-Uggla similarity was even a possibility, there would've been a helluva clamoring to give him the job from the get-go. I don't recall the clamor and that makes me a bit suspect of Leitch's "compared by some" phrase. I'd be curious to know who these 'some' are. Some of the "some": Joe Pawlikowski at Fangraphs. Adam Rubin. Mack's Mets back in December. Terry Collins, via Newnan (GA) Times-Herald. They're both Rule V guys; I think the thought is that the Mets, if they get lucky here, might have gotten themselves an Uggla-ish value, rather than the same skill set. Okay then he has been compared with Uggla. Not in the way I'd hoped though so I suppose I jumped the gun. But Leitch wanted me to believe that. Pawlikowski compared their careers at the same point to one another, Adam Rubin's article was too tiny for my middle-aged eyes to read, Mack's Mets basically copy and pasted Pawlikowski and Collins' quote - "When they talked about [Emaus], they did not talk about that kind of power," Collins said, contrasting him with Uggla. "But they did talk about the fact he works the count, takes pitches, can hit the ball out of the ballpark, can drive in runs." - is sort of refuting a power comparison.

  8. Emaus, a patient hitter with power potential who has been compared by some to Braves second-baseman Dan Uggla Granted, I've been in college basketball mode all winter and I don't really start to pay attention to spring training news and articles until right about now. I have followed the secondbase story from the periphery, but this is something I have not heard before. Emaus is truly projected to possibly have Uggla-type power?

  10. I hear you but I'm having difficulty finding a scenario where Jose Reyes is a Met next season. That is what is really tightening my colon.
  11. Between this crap and Madoff/Reyes bullshit, this season is going to suck extremely large eggs. 'Can't fucking wait for Openeing Day!' He said, sarcastically.

  13. Where and what is Strawberry's?

  15. Maybe you shoud, but now that you say it I see that Mazzilli was the defensive replacement and in fact Mitchell did bat in the 'new' pitcher's spot.
  16. Mitchell didn't pinch hit for Straw right? He was a defensive replacement in the previous inning. Am I misremembering?
  17. Mmmmm, osso bucco.
  18. I just think it's super cool that Greg writes for the New York Times. Nice job Greg, I read it this morning with my coffee.
  19. Francesa opened the show with 'The Jetah Situation' again today. The guy is such a transparent shill its embarassing.
  20. HahnSolo wrote: Of course, Francesa had to bring the stupid with his assertion that if he were the Mets, he'd sign Jeter "tonight". Because the Mets need to sell tickets and Jeter would do that with his quest for 3000 hits (!). So I'm thinking, wow, would Jeter go to the Mets to play second, because Mike would surely agree that is the only spot the Mets could play him. Oh, no, "put Jetah at short and move Reyes to second, or, put Jetah at third and move Wright 'somewhere'." Jesus, does he even watch baseball, or know anything about the Met fan? I feel better knowing Alderson is in charge and making these decisions now rather than Omar.

  22. We really hope they like that stupid jumpy-throwy thing." That's now my new online password. yahoo is reporting that the yanks offered 6 years 140 mil to Cliff Lee. Meanwhile, Lee's holding out for a 7th year. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AkSJmoSIxA2tHSY_VjkPYY8RvLYF?slug=ti-washburnhotstove112210 unfortunately, i don't see texas beating that. That seems like an appropriately iffy and dangerous contract. Let's see how high we can get this Yankee payroll. I got 2 words for that contract: AWE SOME. I hope he gets the 7th year. He'll be 33 in the first year of that deal.
  23. I really like reading Phil Mushnick's column in the Post because at least once a week he points out what an egomaniac Francesa is. His column is really the only place I ever see criticism of Francesa in the press and it makes me feel as though I am not alone in my dislike for the radio guy. The reason I bring this up is because I am presently listening to WFAN and Francesa is interviewing Collins. Francesa believes himself to be such an expert in all things sports that - as anyone who ever listens to his program knows - whenever he has a guest on, rather than ask them their opinion of things, Francesa attempts to impress them with his own superior knowledge of whatever sport they happen to be discussing. Just a few minutes ago he educated the new Mets manager by telling him which players that the Mets called up last season produced. In a way that genuinely seemed to me as if Francesa was giving Collins knowledge about things that Collins didn't know and would be grateful to learn! Then - he says 'Terry, Mets fans really wanted Backman as the manager. The rest of the candidates didn't matter at all. tell the Met fan listening someting about that you that they didn't know...' Huh? what does the Backman line have to do with anything? Then 'Terry, the DUI you have on your record - will that be a problem for you if you try to discipline a player and that player then puts that back in your face?' I mean....really? Lame, lame, lame.
