  1. ="Frayed Knot"]]I do like the neon skyline on top of the scoreboard and I really do dig when it lights up after a homerun. Wish they'd remove the Twin Towers from it though. It takes away a small bit of the joy I feel when I look at the sign and see the red, white and blue ribbon surrounding the blacked out towers. Gary was talking about this the other day - saying how the ribbon over the towers was the perfect way to handle it; not removing them like they're gone from our memories yet not keeping them there and lit up like they're still up. I agree. And I disagree. There are so many reminders of 9/11, everyday and every where I go that I just don't want to think about it anymore then I have to. Of course it was horrible and we should remember it but why do I have to think about it after a homerun? Is that even really appropriate?

  3. I know why they originally put the freakin' apple in the freakin' top hat. I get that. I'm just saying that it makes no sense now and the actual apparatus itself looks chintzy and cheap. ="Willets Point"]Magic Mets You made that one up. Jimmy Walker is good though.
  4. 3rd row second from the left, bald guy with the girl with the big boobs?
  5. Willets Point wrote: New York is the Big Apple. A Big Apple pops out to celebrate Mets homeruns. Pretty easy connection to history and tradition in my book. I get the 'apple' part, thanks Mr. Boston. How does the top hat factor in? Was David Copperfield the mayor of New York City once and I missed it?
  6. I hate the stupid apple. When it was installed as an accompaniment to the 'Magic is Back' campaign, well I guess it was fine, but years later...? It just makes no sense. An apple? Coming out of a top hat? WTF does that mean? It has no real link to the history or tradition of the team - it's just a relic of an old ad campaign. And what about the fact that it looks like a papier mache project a kindergarten class made? I do like the neon skyline on top of the scoreboard and I really do dig when it lights up after a homerun. Wish they'd remove the Twin Towers from it though. It takes away a small bit of the joy I feel when I look at the sign and see the red, white and blue ribbon surrounding the blacked out towers.
  7. Which one?
  8. ]Thank him for his work, sign a free agent, and move on. I think his asking price would be too high for a bench player. I don't know if we should necessarily bring in an FA but Soriano at 2nd wouldn't exactly bother me.
  9. Just read the interview - congrats JD. It was a fun read. Funny how all the comments about '6986' and '7993' ring so true with all us. For a while I was doing 1618 for Doc & Darryl but I've long since '86ed' that PIN.
  10. '86ers are safe.
  11. Not a big fan myself but he has a point.

  14. ="metirish"]Glen Close="SteveJRogers"]I wonder why Glenn was wearing a 1994 uni and not a retro 86 one? Only thing I can figure is that she wanted the 69 team to have some measure of reconigtion Hmmm...This was because it was given to her on Openening Day '94 and has her name on it.She's a chick - what does she know (exemption to that statement granted to SK, cooby and silver)? To her a Mets jersey is a Mets jersey Any more questions, class?

  16. Yeah, I'd be surprised if there was a tilde. Being that '79 was the first year they did names how good could they have been with the nuances? I'll check my yearbooks when I get home tonight and see if there's anything there.
  17. I don't remember a tilde on the uniform but I distinctly remember the P.A. guy pronouncing it 'Montan-YES'
  18. Thanks. <--------------- And as a bonus to me I'm Willieeee Montan-YES.
  19. Does anybody know where I can find this or does it even exist yet? Thanks.
  20. When I was in school and the Tides came into town to play the Syracuse Chiefs I'd always take in a game or two. I saw Magadan and El Sid work it as minor leaguers up there. I wouldn't mind the Mets being a Syracuse team. It would centralize my rooting interests at least. Weren't the Rochester Red Wings always an Orioles affiliate? When did they switch to Minnesota?
  21. Speaking of yearbooks in the 'Post season schedule - Willie Montanez' thread by the way - I have recently completed my collection to the extent that I have at least one yearbook from every single year. Still working on the revised and Spanish language editions though. The goal is to have at least one copy of each version printed. I'm close but the '62s aren't cheap (there's 5 or 6 different versions of them) and the Spanish ones are harder to come by than you might think. On Edit: Did this thread automatically move itself once I posted in it?
  22. My Baseball Confession: I have a very hard time with the Mets uniforms.
