    Optimism

Suppan was 12-7 with an ERA over 4 this year. If not for the fact that he got an early lead in Game 3 and Trachsel's married to Cruella DeVil you wouldn't even be worried about tonight's game. The Shea Stadium mojo is going to be too much for Suppan to overcome. The Cards will fold.
  2. ="Willets Point"]Eeeww...now we need some Voban. "Voban quickly absorbs vomitus and other obnoxious smelling liquids." 'Eeeww' is right.
  3. OKay - last night. Reyes - can enough be said about the leadoff homerun? I was at the Game 4 of the 2000 WS at Shea and when Jetah led off with the HR against Bobby Jones you could feel an impending loss in the air. Last night, JOSE, Jose, Jose, Jose! gave us the complete opposite. Maine - this guy was just balls to the walls. "It will be all right." I love this guy. Celeb sightings - I heard that Jerry Seinfeld and Matthew Broderick were at the game but I didn't see them. Mayor Mike was sitting behind the plate with his lady friend. She left after maybe 4 innings but hizzoner stayed for the whole game by hizzelf. Matt Dillon wearing a Mets cap but not pulling it down far enough (so he wouldn't mess his 'do?) so he looked like a complete doofus. sitting next to Fisher Stevens (who I believe, believe it or not, was at one time married to Michele Pfeiffer), Tim Robbins and his sons - one of whom was wearing a vintage #4 Swoboda jersey and had a very attractive girlfriend. Dillon, Stevens and Robbins were very much into the game.
  4. FYI - I have a friend who is a member of the media (works at NY1) and he gets to be on the field and in the clubhouse before and after games. Last night I saw him at the game and just happened to ask him what kind of guy Green is. According to my bud Green is a very nice, very down to earth kind of guy. Just thought I'd throw that up.
  5. College hoops right around the corner. Its the only thing that gets me through the winter.

]Now that he is one of those options, Maine is confident that he can help the Mets. "It will be all right," he said. "It will be all right". See that? Rigfht there? THAT my friends is the definition of 'balls' "Sit back, relax, calm, down Met fans, it's under control, I've got the ball tonight. It will be all right" Oh yeah.
  7. None of that matters - there's magic on that field. We all know that.
  8. Well I'd rather not be down 2 runs at any point tonight but the fact that the last time the Mets were down 2-3 in a postseason 7 game series and coming home for the last 2 games was...1986.

  10. Green is simply much slower than Endy & Beltran. We've become accostomed to those two running all the way across the outfield with plenty of time to catch the ball. Shawn just ain't got the wheels they do.
  11. Keeping the facial hair but going with a different cap for tonight's game.

    Defeatism

This is something that Met fans can laud over Yankee fans. Odd as it sounds we appreciate the 'moments'. I don't think Yankee fans have been able to truly appreciate their regular seasons in quite some time and that's too bad for them. Our team plays baseball, their team plays 'trophy-ball' and if their season doesn't end with one then they've got nothing. Me? Well my baseball season has been a lot of fun...so far.

    Yeah, really.
  15. I have a sting ray and a shark. The whale? Not so much.
  16. P.S. My whale came out looking like shit.

    Defeatism

Screw defeatism. I think what I'm seeing is a lot of the younger guys taking this harder than those of us who were old enough to really enjoy, remember and truly appreciate '86. I learned a few things that postseason - and if you don't remember it as vividly as I do, the tension now is nothing compared to then. I learned that the Mets making the postseason and winning a World Series was NOT a once in a lifetime thing. It will happen again. I learned that the postseason is all about highs and lows. Nothing is a gimme. I learned that just when it looks like its all gonna come crashing down it can turn around literally in the blink of an eye. Buck up campers, there's lots of great, tense, exciting, nail-biting baseball to be played. Keep the faith.
  18. They'll win tonight, it'll be 3-3 and then Game 7 will be a dogfight. The saving grace is that it will be a dogfight at home.
  19. Who gives a fuck about his finger?
  20. My shark is done. Shit, now I have to start something else! Whale!
  21. It was the origami. I'm making a shark.
