  1. I love Jomboy, though your link disappeared on me. But I love all close replay examinations in details--he just makes them better by his uncanny ability to lip-read. It's incredible how much of manager/umpire arguments actually consist of "Fuck you" and "WTF are you talking about?" And here I thought they were making impassioned but logically compelling cases based solidly on fine points in the rule book.
  2. =kcmets post_id=97556 time=1656378248 user_id=53] I have no interest in the all-star voting anymore, Haven't for decades. Have also been saying for decades the players and coaching staffs should do the voting.
  3. I lived with a bunch of Deadheads in college--a more obsessive, trivia-driven bunch of guys I have never met, and never want to meet, and I say that as an umpteen-time winner of baseball trivia contests in bars all across this country. Jesus, give it a rest, man--no one gives a damn about whether they played "St. Stephen" before or after "Uncle John's Band" on Tuesday night. Once in the early 70s, one of them dragged me to a Dead show at the Felt Forum where I got to understand what the term "Grateful Dead" really meant. I wished I'd died--that thing went on and on, everyone standing up and clapping for hours, high as the moon, taping and trading tapes and nodding wisely to each other throughout the interminable set.
  4. Well, I may try it out, if only to look for other instances of Mets distracted as they run out grounders. As I just mentioned in the now-RLed thread about that, I didn't notice any in this series, but I got peacockblocked out of yesterday's game, and they're not playing the Marlins again for a few more weeks.
  5. Just thought I'd alert all yuz that this should be the 1966th thread in the Baseball Forum so some sharp-eyed CPFer should be careful to start a thread three threads down the line celebrating the 1969 squad, and further down the line, the 1986 team. Or maybe not. This might be too obsessive even for Met fans, but for me the numbers "1969" and "1986" will always bear a special, almost holy, significance.
  6. Horrendous. These are the games you look back on at the end of the season when you've finished out of the playoffs and say, "How did we lose to the fucking Marlins?"
  7. No, NOW the credit card information pops up. Fuck them. The funny thing is I think my cable provider DOES make Peacock available, but I can't find a button to search for that screen.
  8. I will report on the results of signing up for free Peacock yesterday and giving no credit card information when the game starts.
  9. I think I signed up for Peacock yesterday and I never gave a credit card number or nothing.
  10. Yeah, every day's an adventure. Liked it much better when you just found Channel 11 (or Channel 9) on the TV set and that was it.
  11. Well, yes. But this is the first time he's played uninjured (kinnehora), played a single position, played every day, batted in one slot, and been the indispensable sparkplug to the Mets offense. Up until now, I've felt he was a role player who hadn't yet shown what he was capable of.
  12. I really feel strongly that Nimmo is on the cusp of a stellar career. I like everything about the guy, his on-base ability, his power, his defense, his arm, his smarts, his consistency, his hustle...I can't think of any quality he has that doesn't fill me with admiration.
  13. Nimmo always fills me with confidence, even when he isn't swinging the bat well. Beats out a squibber.
  14. Jesus, he really hit that ball!
  15. Thought Taijuan was pullin' a Wilbur Wood. i was SOOOO confused.
  16. Pete nails # 21, oppo field.
  17. No talk about the GB being fair. Looked close, but no one argued the point, so I guess it went clearly but barely foul. 1-2-3 strikeouts in the top of the first.
  18. The Miami broadcast team is really unloading on Astudillo for last night.
  19. As far as Squirrel goes, we didn't need him to pinch-hit yesterday, so maybe that's his role for now, to bat once late in a game, but to sit another day if there's no need for him. It's not as though the Mets don't have other 2B men or LFers who can take the wear and tear that maybe he can't right now.

I'm sick of this guy. Give the guy a break, wouldja, Buck! Jesus! And I don't mean Aguilar. Or Sanchez.
  21. This was fun to watch 12 hours delayed, on tape. I love replay, and not just because the Mets killed it in Chelsea tonight (last night), but to me that's the best part of the game, looking at replays, playing "you make the call" in real time (last night, in fake time) while they deliberate, freezing the screen while you try to first-guess the call. I think I like that game more than I like the game of baseball.
  22. I listened while I worked and then while I drove around after work hitting my errand stops. Good job on the radio call today by H&W. McNeil day to day with "tightness" of the ham. X-rays negative on J.D. Davis' pinky where he got plunkied. So those are both good outcomes considering how Metsish they could have gone down. Best you could have hoped for, considering. A lame Squirrel is useless, and J.D.'s hand could have been a replay of last year's woes. Sounds like we may lose them for a short time. Good thing we brought up Dom today, almost as if someone understood we'd need someone who can play (some of) their position.
  23. Baez was perhaps the strangest Met in memory.
  24. =kcmets post_id=96792 time=1655756578 user_id=53] Gary said on pace to beat the record by about a dozen. Not tie the record.
