  1. What a guy!
  2. My theory is you plant this stuff to see if we're playing close attention. That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.
  3. I find it mildly insulting to call the Brewers an AA team. And even the Mets qualify as a marginal triple A squad.
  4. Are we discussing anywhere d'Arnaud's swinishness in defending his teammate and attacking the media for doing their job? What a tool!
  5. Dunno, but whenever I see charts ranking anything or anyone by %, it's often the case that the leading contender makes the minimum G, PA, AB, IP etc by a hair.
  6. I didn't.
  7. when the #1 guy got lost for the season, it was left horribly exposed. Hey, come on. It was perfectly reasonable for the Jets to depend on having Aaron Rodgers all season!
  8. Tiny Sample Size but 7 ribeyes in 8 games for Hernandez seems promising.
  9. Every loss rigged, every umpire corrupt, every news story written by an enemy of the people, yeah. It would be a pisser. You've got to wonder if the manager matters, don't you? Buck was a total genius up until the last week of 2022. Then he became a total asshole badly in need of firing (see sig line, below). I don't know how much he mattered, in the end. The players played well until they didn't. Then, compelled to play Vogie and deprived of Diaz, surprise!!! , the players stopped playing well. Could the Donald, or Ronald McDonald for that matter, have done much different? We'll never know.
  10. I'd be willing to accept Donald Trump as manager, if that would satisfy his lust for leadership positions over the next decade or so. Seriously. I wonder if the manager makes an actual difference in a team's W-L record sometimes. And Trump would certainly be amusing.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: [Davey] totally approved the trade of [Dykstra]. [Cashen] tended to run deals by him when they involved established MLB personnel. That's "[Cashen] tended to run deals by [Johnson] (Davey)" please.
  12. Here's the link to George Vecsey's remembrance. https://www.georgevecsey.com/home/joe-christopher-was-my-friendhttps://www.georgevecsey.com/home/joe-christopher-was-my-friend That's what I posted. But mine doesn't open up for some reason, so thanks. Anyone got a free link to the NYTIMES obit?
  13. I'm with KC. Most were OK, but this one, for example Cashen didn't see talent on the level that I saw it, whether it was Lenny Dykstra or Kevin Mitchell -- guys I thought were instrumental to our club. He traded them all. [Cashen] might have disagreed with what I thought bugged me. Totally unnecessary. "He" is clearly "Cashen"--that's why "He" starts the previous sentence. No ambiguity whatsoever.
  14. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2023/10/07/a-true-fan-favorite/Something for Joe. Nice. Here's another extensive obit for JC: joe-christopher-was-my-friendjoe-christopher-was-my-friend Thanks for clarifying who (Gus Bell) was dropped from the roster to make room for JC, and when: the 26-year-old was sent to Syracuse to start 1962. But by May, once Bell was identified as the player to be named later in the trade that brought Frank Thomas to the Mets from the Braves (never mind that Bell had played alongside Thomas for more than a month as a Met), Christopher was promoted to the bigs. The Mets employed 45 players in 1962. Joe was the 35th to debut, on May 21.
  15. =Gwreck post_id=139068 time=1696721861 user_id=56] ??? That game was October 19, 2006. Today is October 7, 2023.
  16. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=139059 time=1696714467 user_id=68] Whatever. Ostrosser.
  17. Obnoxiousness, is my problem with the 1969 O's. The Robinson crack about Ron Gaspar, the Earl Weaver bullshit carrying on during the series, the "you ain't seen nothing yet" from Buford to Harrelson while rounding the bases on his leadoff homer in Game One against Seaver, the snottiness in general.
  18. I still hold a grudge from 1969, sorry. Also Cubs, Yankees, Cards. A lot of baggage.
  19. Celebrated around my house with five minutes of silence and a gaping jaw.
  20. I dunno, it seems tough to make this sort of charge or complaint stick. Everyone on the roster is always hurting to a greater or lesser degree, and most times they just play through (or get ongoing treatment for) whatever's bothering them. Is it really a violation to ask a player "Hey, couldn't you use a few days of rest? It would really help the club get through a roster crunch we're going through right now, and I know you're less than 100%, right?" Did Eppler do much more than that, do you suppose?
  21. What do you suppose is being investigated specifically? Which stays on the IL stand out to you as fake, illegitimate, or otherwise suspicious?
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Mattingly probably has a decent chance of at least getting through the door for an interview. Why not? They've been kissing Yankee butt ever since they hired Stengel. Berra, Randolph, Showalter--no Yankee butt is too stinky for the Mets to smooch. You'd think they'd show some goddamned pride, but that's too much to ask, I guess. Maybe re-hire Randolph, with Mattingly as GM?
  23. All he's got is dis after dis.
  24. =G-Fafif post_id=138793 time=1696390364 user_id=55] The Original Mets roster is included in the heavily researched A Year in Mudville by Dave Bagdade, who notes Christopher was one of the final cuts of Spring Training. Joe began the year in Syracuse.
  25. Wasn't on the Opening Day roster and didn't play as a Met until May The UMDB doesn't list such roster additions and subtractions on their "transactions" page. Where did you find this bit of info? It would be interesting to see call-ups, DL appearances. etc.
