He's probably my favorite Met ever, and I thought he'd roller skate into the Hall of Fame. But, unless this is shades of Maz returning in '86, I can't help but think they needed someone who can call Julio Franco "kid."

I guess the internet's hipness is winning, given that SI has had to resort to putting the words "Red Ass" on its cover.

MFY most dangerous team on the Internet

I will say that Canseco allowed writers to name the names that he named, which helped them skirt libel laws. So, that's something.

Gwreck: I'm the first voice you hear when the show starts. Edgy: I should have added "Is" in front of "Rick Peterson coming back?" Of, course, that depends on your definition of "Is."

Well, Mother Nature tried but she couldnt stamp out Daily News Mets beat writer Adam Rubins in-studio appearance on our commercial-free, no one makes a dime from it, Long Island Sports Talk radio show last night. Adam told us ( The interview is up, by the way. I'll be posting more stuff on it later.) that he got major flack from the Mets behind the scenes for that and that Raissman was doing that story on it. I--Patchy talking, not Adam--have a feeling that Raissman's original filed story and that which we're reading today were not the same. Raissman's articles are never that vague.

And we kick off the 2006 All-Inclusive Patchy's Baseball-Related Guest Thread by relaying the information that CPF Friend Adam Rubin will be joining us live and in-studio tonight from 9PM to 11PM on Long Island's 90.3FM. As you know, we're not yet webcast but the show will be up on the web as soon as humanly possible. So, even if you're not in the listening area, feel free to call in. The call-in # is (516) 572-7440 Adam was nice enough to give us a plug here today: http://blogs.nydailynews.com/mets/ The interview will be at http://hosted.filefront.com/patchyfogg

Now we get to read Yankees shills in the media writing about his fondness for the New York nightlife and how his eyes remain fixed across town.

="seawolf17"]="PatchyFogg"]="seawolf17"]And Jerry Manuel has been ejected from the game. Maybe he was tired of watching Lima and just decided to start cursing at Tim Welke. With his free time and how long a day it looks like it's gonna be, he can check out the Gateway Arch and the Bowling Hall of Fame. Or perhaps he can go find a Little League team somewhere who will be willing to take on Lima in a trade. He's still younger than Danny Almonte, so why not? His wife (and STD, if we believe the lawsuit) might prove problematic, though.

="Frayed Knot"]I think the home team's stadium should take it upon themselves to assign songs to opposing players. Like maybe when Prince Fielder hauls his huge butt to the plate they can chime in with 'Baby Got Back'. Or they could go with 'Having my Baby' if Chipper knocks up another fast-food waitress and stuff like that. In that vein, playing anything by The Hooters might even be funnier for Chipper.

METS & CABLEVISION/SATS ... DO NOT disappoint us

http://www.newsday.com/business/ny-spsny0324,0,4018120.story?coll=ny-top-headlines ]SNY, Cablevision reach deal BY NEIL BEST Newsday Staff Writer March 23, 2006, 1:53 PM EST SportsNet New York reached a carriage agreement with Cablevision Thursday, doubling the regional sports network's distribution and calming Mets fans who were concerned that they would be shut out of their team's games this season. SNY launched March 16 and since then has been in serious talks with the Long Island-based cable TV giant, which has about 3 million customers. Previously, SNY had been available in about 3 million homes, primarily through Comcast and Time Warner, which are part owners of the network. Cablevision homes were expected to have access to SNY sometime Thursday night, when a Mets spring training game against the Marlins was to be shown. The network will be carried on Channel 60. SNY will show 125 Mets games this season. Next on SNY's agenda are the two largest satellite TV providers, DirecTV and Dish Network. A deal with DirecTV seems more likely. Dish does not carry the Yankees' YES Network. The Mets' opener is April 3. -

LUCIE, Fla. -- Tears welled in Bret Boone's eyes, his lower lip quivering ever so slightly. Something inside had told him to go home. Boone's 14-year Major League career came to an end Wednesday in the dugout at Tradition Field. The three-time All-Star pointed to his chest, said his inner fire was missing and announced his retirement. "Something I've loved my whole life has become a major, major job for me," Boone said. "I don't think it would be fair for me -- or fair to the Mets -- to continue something I've loved my whole life and had so much passion for, and all of a sudden that passion isn't there anymore." Boone, 37, was in camp with the Mets on a Minor League contract, accepting a non-roster invitation to Spring Training. After batting .221 in 88 games for the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins last season, Boone said he wanted to leave the game on his terms. "At the end of the day, physically I think I could still do it," Boone said. "It wasn't as easy as three or four years ago to get out there every day, but to me, I just lost it. I lost the edge." Mets GM Omar Minaya said that he supported the decision. Boone was absent from camp on Tuesday, when the Mets went through their first intra-squad game, and decided to retire now rather than go through the team's exhibition schedule. "He did not disappoint us," Minaya said. "It takes a man to make a decision. One of the reasons we brought Bret on board this spring was because of the way he plays the game -- the way he gave in the clubhouse, the passion he brought to the game. That passion was something that was contagious. I fully support his decision." Boone said a pivotal moment came when he watched 22-year-old shortstop Jose Reyes last week, gleefully coasting through drills even after four hours in the Florida sun. "He just kind of stared at me with that smile on his face," Boone said. "I said, 'That's what I remember.' Being a kid. He's got so much love right now for this game, and it's right on his sleeve. I know what he's feeling. "He can't wait to get to the ballpark and go to work, and that's awesome. That's what you need to be successful in this game, and if you don't have that, you're wasting everybody's time." Boone finishes his career as a lifetime .266 hitter with the Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres and Twins. A four-time Gold Glove award winner and a two-time Silver Slugger recipient, Boone compiled 1,775 hits, 252 home runs and 1,021 RBI in 1,780 career games. Boone's retirement leaves three candidates -- Kaz Matsui, Anderson Hernandez and Jeff Keppinger -- in the race to be the Mets' Opening Day second baseman. Minaya said he is confident the team will fill the position. "We'll find ways," Minaya said. "We'll find guys to be able to get the job done."

In business meetings, I had a co-worker who used to use the phrase "My Mookie Priority is to......." to refer to his #1 priority. That damn Lance "1 Dog" Johnson made that guy stop using that phrase. I mean who would sit though 51 priorities?

I can tell you that Adam looks forward to doing this again with the folks at the CPF, so all praise the Knot of Frayed-dom.

Koby Clemens Hits Homer off Roger Clemens in First At-Bat
patchyfogg replied to Willets Point's topic in New York Mets Talk
I guess this proves that his control is so good that he can feel confident enough to buzz his kid's head yet know that he's not going to hit him. Not that we needed any further proof about the Piazza beaning and "the ball getting away" from him. William Tell me another one, Roger. Edited as I had a backspace error resulting in "needn't."
