  1. Maybe not criminal, but all players who are available should be given a cursory look. In the case of a youngish stud like Tejada, the look should be more than cursory. Since we are one of the few teams that have a shortstop who could be considered a decent replacement for Tejada, we should give it an extra hard look. So it may not be as criminal as the pro-trade, TiTTS crowd might lead you to believe, but it would be stupid if Omar didn't do some pontificating of a trade for Tejada. Edit

  3. Reyes, Diaz, + pitcher for Tejada.
  4. I haven't gotten too attached to Reyes yet. I think I'm subconciously avoiding attachment because I'm terrified of his hamstring completely detaching from his leg one day as he rounds second.
  5. What's done may not be completely different in the context stated, but to take it beyond that, it is completely different: To thin out the system and trade away/fail to pursue the familiar guys when the gain is insiginficant is completely different from thinning out the system and trade away/fail to pursue the familiar guys when the gain is siginficant. At least that's the distinction that I make. ___________________ This post had the designation 101) Ty Wigginton, stud third baseman and a great loss in the Kristin Benson trade.

  7. I'd personally like to see a World Championship. The non-exploration of a deal with Piazza is completely different from a Tejada for Reyes, because in the Piazza situation, trading for Lo Duca cost us players for little appreciable gain. Tejada for Reyes is a significant upgrade. I'm willing to deal players that might not see the light of Queens for that. Or those that have seen the light but get on base at a clip in the low 300's. If we have to part with Diaz or Milledge and a pitcher, so be it.
  8. Where? I should RMPL. Nymr and I are more like Internet Acquaintances than buddies. On edit: wow, a full day late on this one. This is why everything should be kept in one thread.
  9. Tejada wants out I'm guessing no one is going to like this idea, but I'd give up Reyes and a superfluous pitcher in a heartbeat for Tejada. Hell, depending on who else they want I'd consider moving Milledge.
  10. I like Woody

I just hate unnamed sources, and my ire was piqued when a reporter mentioned that no reporter would dare use an anonymous quote to help to fabricate a trade rumor, then refused to respond when he was challenged on it and shown evidence to the contrarty.
  12. ]According to the New York Post and the Daily News, the Mets best shot at moving 2B Kaz Matsui is with the Devil Rays Because the Post and Daily News know these things. ]Both reports suggest that the Rays will have to move SS Julio Lugo first An additional helping of pure speculation ] Insiders have told the the Bergen Record and Daily News that the Mets are currently telling teams they will pay half of the $8 million owed to Matsui Ted the bullpen janitor has been running his mouth again. The only paper I trust less than Newsday is that Bergen Record that pops up now and again. Ahhhhhhhhh, I feel better.

  15. Javy to DH?
  16. ....with the Orioles. 4 years, 27.25 millions. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2252475 ______________ This post had the designation 102) Jose Vizcaino :-x
  17. ]2nd best :-) _______________ This was Elster88's last post with the designation 103) Tom Glavine. I'll expect to see you higher up in the ranks soon, Tom.
  18. I think Overbay is a very good hitter, and that he just doesn't get recognition because first basemen are supposed to hit 35 home runs a year. He would've been a nice guy to get on the Mets, except I heard we got this other guy.
  19. rpackrat wrote: Elster, I really don't understand why you insist on being such an ass to pretty much everyone here. Do you think it makes you look clever? It doesn't. Sorry I hit you. I realized I was being rude today after I responded to your post. My apologies. I hope I don't come off that way on a regular basis. The only person I really have major disagreements is Healey, and that's probably attributable to him only reading his own threads, so he doesn't respond when questions are directed to him elsewhere. And I still do think my comment was obviously sarcastic in regards to the Braves getting mileage out of guys you wouldn't expect it.
  20. rpackrat wrote: Whether it makes sense depends on the dollars. If it's 2 years at $1 mil per, I have no problem with it. Yeah, I guess. I'm down with that. It's not my money, as Vic has been pointing out.
  21. Of course, Julio is now 7 years older than Rickey was and over a decade older than Super Joe was. If you believe he's 47. Seriously, if you want him and can't get him to take a 1-year deal, why not just look for a backup who's not in his late-forties? Is this a difficult question?
  22. rpackrat wrote: ]I'm guaranteeing Renteria hits at least .315 for the Braves next year. That seems like a safe bet since he's hit that high exactly once in his 10 year career. My post was quite obviously a sarcastic comment referring to the Braves ability to sometimes plug Joe Baseballplayer in and get results. But by all means continue to take such off-the-cuff remarks seriously. It's amusing to watch.
  23. Valadius wrote: Last I checked, they could use a second baseman or a shortstop. A $7 million dollar guy with Matsui's numbers and inability to play shortstop is what they would go for? You gave me the where, just not the why. No one wants Mastui. MASTUI SUCKS!!!
  24. I believe Zito is not going anywhere, though my sources that Beane won't deal him are obviously the very shaky Internet and radio. Flipping Benson for a guy like Dominguez makes no sense, especially if the replacement starter is Vazquez.
