Z, Nolan has said quite often that Miller's Year One is one of his direct influences, along with Long Halloween and Killing Joke (for TDK's Joker). Batman Begins has many illusions to Year One, and all but gives live versions of several pages. So if you weren't too fond of the Miller Batman and pretty much every Bat-Story that has come since, you probably aren't going to enjoy the Batman presented in the Chris Nolan films. Basically the argument boiled down to "It's not MY BATMAN!" (along with various story and character flaws he found in the movie) and the guy actually said the only good Batman representation on film was Mask Of The Phantasm! My bad. I thought you were referring to Millers :The Dark Knight series. That was released in '86. Batman: Year One, Miller's retro look was 1987, also a great piece of work. And yea, I can definitely see that influence. And from Killing Joke. Not familiar with the Long Halloween.
  2. DAMN! I would have crapped your pants JCL, lol.

And Manuel and Warthen have both said publicly that Ollie's no better now than a few months ago when the Mets finally took him out of the starting rotation. He hasn't had a single appearance this season without walking at least one batter. They might as well ask me to pitch the 9th innings. The last place this guy belongs is on the 25 man roster. (Although two weeks from now, the major league rosters expand). I said last night they should fire someone just to shake things up. Upon thinking about this I think the malaise starts from the very top and spreads down like a cancer. So don't fire a coach or manager (can't say Jerry doesn't try to keep things positive) because it really won't make any difference for right now. If they are not gonna use Perez for anything like the start vs the Phils Saturday night, or out of the pen when it counts, especially since it seems the organization has given up on this season, then YES, release him, please. Start there.

I'm a big fan of those Miller comics from '86 and the new movies. I don't see how one had anything to do with the other. So don't be listening to those people. (just sayin)
  5. Wright playing a fine 3rd base with a few sparkling plays so far tonight. Me likey.

SNY don't reach me. Can you let me know how much footage from the playoffs they show? It's possible I might be in it, but very unlikely because they always have seemed to avoid showing footage from the last game, when fans went wild. Things were out of control in the stands for at least the last 2 innings if I remember right. Can anyone say what inning they took the Reds families from the wooden built box in front of the field box seats and led them away to the Reds bullpen? That's pretty much when things began to get out of hand.

He was (IMO) the typical rich guy to whom the team was an expensive toy and who CLEARLY became disinterested in owning the team after a while. Not that any of that makes him a bad guy necessarily (although at times was both a drunk and a bigot according to various sources) just hardly my idea of the ideal owner. I know next to nothing about him. I only know he's not Fred Wilpon.
  8. Nice work Niese. Gets out of the 1st and 3rd pickle in the 2nd.

  10. This is a great KTE if it took weeks to do, but for a last minute one...? I smell a belt buckle award.
  11. Oh, what I would give to see what how things would have gone if Doubleday bought out Wilpon instead of the other way around.
  12. This seasons schedule has been the strangest I've ever seen. I usually don't pay much attention to that kind of thing but this season the fact keeps hitting me over the head.
  13. Wait. He did this during the beat down? And he pitched since then? Last night I saw him in the bullpen laughing it up with a few other players. Over what, I don't know. But he was actually laughing pretty hard and then he was patting down a picture that was on the wall (or bulletin board) in the bullpen. From the angle I could not see what this picture was of. I was very curious. I did hope the ESPN guys would pick up on it and show what that picture was. But they didn't. Did anyone else see this during the game(on ESPN)? I'm not saying this has anything to do with anything but I'm still very curious. And yes, this is totally unfreakinbelievablyfuckedup. Like we needed this, ...the team was looking like a joke already.
  14. Nice Beltran. Swing at moose shit.
  15. Oh David. Well, he played it well. Did everything correctly including trying to cut down the hop, but doesn't glove it. I'll have to call that a good error.
