  2. DUDA! Im tellin ya, he knows what he's doing at first. During this period of him at first Ive noticed, in his head, he knows what he wants to do with the ball before he gets it. The judgement on actually catching that aside, he knew exactly what he needed to do after he caught it. Now, the footwork and execution is another matter, but he knows what he's doing there. And that's the only place I think he knows what he's doing. If he continues to play in the N.L. he's gotta be a first baseman. Nice Ike like catch there.
  3. Wow. Great diving grab by EYjr. That was a classic catch.

  5. You got it. These are nice and big: I think we've seen one a these. Heres the pic of Casey on the bench. Here he yells at his team to get there asses out onto Butterball Field. This could be Casey in that corner of the world. Could this be? The Skanks on the spot? So go on, name the water fountain.
  6. Oh yea, Young finally scored (Phils guys got so quiet I figure something happened) and we are tied. *insert pic of tie here><
  7. Edgy MD wrote: Second and third with nobubby out. Eric Young probably should've scored already. That was a great deek by my nemesis. Some say thats weak baseball. I think its pure baseball.
  8. Another ump that see's things that are not happening. Just observing tho. Never complain when it goes your way. They say that yesterdays play at the plate would be overturned on review under the new rules next season. Now that went against us, and I will still say that if a call like that can be overturned on review, I'm not going to like the "new" baseball.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: It's not intentional. It seems to me a matter of positioning. It seems to me that you don't know what the right position is until the guy slides. He might slide inside the catcher and he might slide outside. If it can become the standard for the first base ump to follow the play home, the home plate ump can position himself for the outside slide, and if the guy slides inside and he's screened, point to first base ump to ask for help. That's brilliant. Have the first base ump get involved in those. How come they don't think of this stuff?

Looks more like a bird bath." But the other pics show it is for a fact. These are fantastic finds bats. I have no idea who the guy with Rocky is. Looking at TUMD for a possible name I'll take a crazy wild guess with Peter LaMotte, team trainer. No pic of him there. That's Young with his typewriter? He's as crazy as us. Guess its not too strange though. These days he'd have his laptop. He was ahead of his time and obviously a serious writer. I'm pretty sure I have a shot of Casey sitting on one a those benches. The water fountain, the benches, the clubhouse, parking lot and water, fence and cage. That little corner of the world is getting bigger.

Except they've got all kinds of fallback playoff spots these days to cushion the blow. But still, Votto's ball didn't bounce off the top of any wall. Damn, I hope they make it. Who would I root for if they don't?
  12. That play at the plate. The Phils had a different camera view, but to be fair they did broadcast SNYs feed for one of the replays. Gary and crew voiced proper dismay. The Phils guys were beaming. Ha. But, as I said, how could the ump have even calculated that he could have been safe (say, if he was blocked out). How could umps be soooo bad? Is this intentional?

Ooo, I did miss some kabooms didn't I. And the one from Murph, a big one. I think now that the games over I can watch it with Gary and crew. I'm sick of those Phillies guys. If a Philly hits a homer they scream like girls and when a Met hits one, they don't even raise their voice. I mean, it's happening, announce it with a lil bit of importance. lil bit? And the end of the low sentence describing the ball that leaves the park is laced with so much disgust. I can't stomach those guys any more. They used to be good. Yeah, Kalas was fine. But he had to share the booth with Wheeler, who's always been awful. It's a mystery how he's been there so long, because nobody in Philadelphia can stand the guy. Kalas had a problem with him too. I don't recall the details right now.

  15. Not sure. Roger Craig possibly at Butterball Field.
  16. I was late in getting around yesterday to reviewing the September 20th game in 1973 and by the time I was about to Gary had done a much better job of summing it up than I could have AND he had the video to go along with it. That game, which was the one that planted the idea of looking back at the whole stretch run of 73, is obviously a big one to remember but Ive always remembered the specific date as well. It was the same night as the Bobby Riggs/Billie Jean King match and it was the day Jim Croces plane went down outside of Nachitoches, Louisiana (if you dont know who Jim Croce was, kids, ask your parents). And while neither one of those happenings were major events in my life, if you had asked me at any time over the last four decades when Croce died or what was the date of the King-Riggs match I could have told you the exact date without a moments hesitation. And whenever I hear that all of America was watching the made for TV / network televised / Cosell narrated tennis match in those pre-cable days where an event like that probably drew a 70 share, I think to myself: well not everyone was watching because I was watching (and then listening to after I got sent to bed) the Mets/Pirate game. September 21 The five game series concludes (on a Friday?!?) with Seaver getting his revenge from game 1 and the Mets thumping the Bucs 10-2 Four 1st inning runs off Steve Blass (who wouldnt survive the inning) and 13 hits and 3 HRs (Staub, Milner, Garrett) altogether assured that the Mets would never trail. It was also the game that put the Mets into 1st place with a glorious 77-77 record. NYM --- PIT -0.5 StL -1.0 MON -1.5 CHC -2.5 PHI -9.0 Did he do that tonight? Damn u motherfkin comcast! Damn u all to hellll! Yea, now I gotta watch it. Kool.

  21. Young 1 Murphy 1.5 Wright 1.5 Brown 1 d'Arnaud 0.4 Matsuzaka 2 Atchinson 1 Black 0.2 Feliciano 0.2 Hawkins 1
  22. Very good game. Wright gets the last out. It is soooooo good to see him back. I want the Mets to play this series like its a playoff that means something, cause it does, to me, and this is a great start.
  23. Whoa. Wow, great catch by Laggy. Straight over his head, the toughest of all. Whoa, what a play by Hawkins.
  24. Phils mugs think this ump really sucks. They are right. ha.
  25. I thought these were fkn beautiful.
