It's got to be at least part of the picture with all the granniees the Mets yielding this year. and to tie it all together, Felix hit a grannie off the Mets.
  2. Also, if wins are that important, than by virtue of trying to get one every single game, FELIX was under more pressure, knowing he'd have to be practically perfect to have a shot at one, whereas Sabathia could chill and relax knowing his team was more likely to score 11 than it was to score 1.
  3. metirish wrote: What really grinds my gears in this "debate" is saying that Hernandez didn't pitch in any meaningful games after May, what an insult to the player , and the game no? It's also an implication that Sabathia's not very clutch and pitches worse under pressure, so why should we give him the award anyway? and I'd argue that Sabathia was pitching with a safety net anyway, not exactly do or die games.

  5. dgwphotography wrote: My oldest saw HP at last night's midnight show, and said it was the best movie of the series. I bought my tickets yesterday after work. People waiting online already (despite there being a midnight showing in every single theatre, therefore not sold out in the least bit. There was also a 3:30am showing and a 6am showing. yikes) lots of Hermoines in short skirts and wizarding robes. among other crazies. I hope it's better than the others. I always felt like they were basically clip shows masquerading as movies.
  6. Here's a fun game while you're goofing off at work on Friday: Try to find four different sources predicting the Mets manager will be each of the four candidates.
  7. I couldn't make it through that Chass article. I just couldn't do it. I think I'd rather poke myself in the eye. That guy has no business writing anything that gets published. I'm sure he writes stuff in between scathing hateful unfounded articles and profoundly ignorant ones that are almost readable, but he shouldn't be writing anything.
  8. Someone tweeted that collins was the most thorough with the reporters afterwards. Is it any surprise that he's been touted as the favorite for a while? At least we'd get to make Tom Collins jokes? Maybe?
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Felix Hernandez tops C.C. Sabathia for Cy Young. I'm sure Michael Kay will have a fit as well. an absolute fit. I hope he waits until 5. I guessed enough old school folk would be, well, old school, and Price would end up winning.
  10. I think the books go quickly from really young adult, to much older young adult as they move along. Books 5 and 6 for example, with all the kissing and crushing and girls and snogging and whatever.

They already have big signs and arrows and barriers up to control the crowd tonight. That doesn't surprise me. Glad i'm going in the morning, usually weeds out some of the crazies.
  13. I'm going 9:30 in IMAX Saturday morning. going to go buy the tix tonight after work. I assume it'll suck, like all the others. but maybe not.

(Last year when I left Fairfield, NJ at 5, I was usually able to get to Citi Field by 6. Of course, taht dropped to 6:45-7 if I picked up the wife) fairfield! I grew up in w caldwell. Used to work in fairfield (Totowa as of a month ago). I worked right off 80, so I would skip out 5 minutes early, floor it eastward, and make it to about the FDR before traffic usually caught up with me. now it's an extra 5-6 minutes before I can get to route 80. We'll see what affect that has come April, with getting to games.

As Felix Unger knew about Gloria, one day I will return to New York.... ha, that's how I describe myself as well. I even named my personal blog that I don't update "Garden Variety New Yorker" because I think i'm funny.
  16. The PATH train sucks. I mean, it's better than NJ Transit, but to get to midtown via a subway would be nice. the PATH is basically a subway for Jersey City/Hoboken/Newark, neither of which are fun to drive to either. so if we have to take NJ Transit there anyway, being able to hop on the 7 would be much preferable. But yes, we have a horrible governor who is apparently selling t-shirts?

  19. HahnSolo wrote: I saw her the other day on a new show. It was a "celebrity" one (terms used loosely). Contestants included Greg Buttle, kevin Burkhart and Chris Carlin. I have no idea who the guy co-host is. Amber looked better on the show than she did in the press picture above. The wonders of post-production I guess? She looked overly done up in person. The guy's name is on the beermoney website somewehre, but I've already forgotten. the celebrity one was the "season premier" i think. I don't nkow if they're going in order of when they filmed them, but I was one of the first and way back in May, so I'm suspecting it'll be early on.
  20. Apparently the new season has finally started airing. Amber was on Boomer and Carton this morning. (apparently she minored in history, took a lot of Cold War Era Eastern European history classes.) Carton of course asked her what she'd do if Brett Favre texted her pictures of his junk. So if you happen to catch any of the episodes (I'm trying to remember to record them so I can check), I'm one of the guy's at Brew Fest. First question involved switch hitters, and I choked on the third.
  21. metsmarathon wrote: new york and san francisco are also pretty much down the street from one another. that's not a great walk either. Well, it's not as bad if you take a break at Chicago in the middle.
  22. SteveJRogers wrote: Edgy DC wrote: The only feel I got from San Diego's Gaslamp district was a Disney one. Oh, speaking of which, Disney Land is pretty much down the street from Angels Stadium in Anaheim. Definitely good for a two-part trip(in fact, that's what I did when i was there, as well as San Diego and losing one of our party in Mexico), and I do enjoy the downtown Disney area, but it's not quite "down the street" as it's not really walking distance, although there is public transportation that'll get you there. But I think that's the best we can hope for around Citi. What would be absoutely perfect, IMO, is a big beer garden with tvs.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: What they could really use is a nice mid-level hotel, like a Holiday Inn or a Marriott Courtyard or a Hampton Inn right across the street from Citi Field, so that out of town guests can safely walk to their hotel after a night game. And why not also have an upper scale hotel and a economy hotel (Days Inn, Red Roof Inn, etc) as well? I'd be much more willing to attend a night game at Citi Field if I could be in a hotel room shortly after the end of the game. perfect. make 'em a sponsor, give discounts with a ticket stub. Offer "get here" packages like the "get away" packages but marketed towards out of town fans that want to come here versus fans here that want to see the team on the road.
  24. HahnSolo wrote: Convention Center is right there too. I'm supposed to be heading out there in January. Looking forward to it. I was there in Feb of 2008 (I swear, if i couldn't search gmail tosee when i talked about things, i'd enver remember when i was where) and it was nice. had a nice chat with a random stranger in the gaslight district about the Mets, and Ruben Gotay if i recall correctly. I was wearing a Mets shirt obviously, but there were a lot of mets fans there for February in San Diego. I flew out there for a random interview, so I guess i came fairly close to almost possibly movingthere and going to a lot of Padres games. I definitely enjoyed the gaslight district though, very nice. Also, that Convention Center has some huge stairs. This company i interviewed at supposedly has a "group run" Fridays at lunch time where they just run up and down those stairs. I'm kinda glad i didn't get the job.
  25. soupcan wrote: Ceetar wrote: San Diego started with basically nothing around it. now they've got some skyscraping office buildings, and a lot going on nearby in the gaslight area, although it's not _right_ next to the park. San Diego's got it knocked. Hotels, restaurants, clubs, condos - all right around the park. Great park in what's become a great area in a great city. It's what the Mets hope will happen at Citi, Yeah, it's definitely nice. I've been there twice and actually haven't seen a game unfortunately. just walekd around the park and tour. the clubs and restaurants and what not are a block a way right, or two?
