"I know people that are like that -- that have that kind of passion -- and I admire them, but I'm not like that. All I know is I'm a fan and I take great solace and great enjoyment in the game. I love baseball, and I love my Mets more than anything else." For all the years I've been posting here, I've always felt like I wasn't as 'big' a fan as a lot of you because it seems like you all have these great memories of events and places and specific instances and I just don't. What this guy says - this is the kind of fan I am. It's nice to see it put into words. Some people are just more detail oriented. I've been to tons of games. some are detailed, some are not. It's the same way in life mostly, I can remember some specific moments and events with great clarity, and others are mostly cloudy. I remember walking out of game 7 in a fog, slowly filing out in the mess and remember the disappointed boos at the scoreboard congratulating the Cardinals. I remember getting separated from the people I went with because I just didn't care enough to stay close as we manuevered through the crowd. I remember the path I walked to the car and the bum that offered tos ell me a Cardinals cap. but then I remember very few details about Opening Day last year.

LOL....stinkin ridiculous. Okay, someone name me a movie where they destroy Rushmore. I need to do some photoshopping. error by Francisco in RF.
  3. Gwreck wrote: Halladay plowed through the Astros in order in the first two innings. I give him at least a 35% chance of throwing a no-hitter today (yes, the Astros are that bad). Nah, Myers gets a hit to break it up. (Apparently the Phillies fans groaned at this in the third inning?) Next inning a leadoff single, advances on a hit and run to second, and there are two hard hit balls for outs. meanwhile, the Phillies offense goes quietly. Myers has thrown 36 pitches through 4. (57 for Halladay)

  5. I dont think I'd read much into a color creep on the website. web colors are always slightly different looking anyway, and I think all the sites got a makeover recently.
  6. well, truth is, it wouldn't be a baseball season if we weren't nitpicking the lineup.
  7. I've enjoyed April Fools day in recent years. there are all sorts of quirky things on the web. Document them here! For instance, google Helvetica. Google has also created a new product, Gmail Motion. You can control your email with your body. http://mail.google.com/mail/help/motion.html
  8. We allowed to edit our answers up until tomorrow? I'm sorta regretting my Bay pick for first walk.
  9. official: Reyes-6, Harris-7, Wright-5, Beltran-9, Pagan-8, Davis-3, Emaus-4, Thole-2, Pelfrey-1

Bonds was apparently a fanatic about diet and fitness during his time with the Giants, with lifestyle-support-- nutritionists, rotating in-house chefs, and the like-- on his payroll. The point isn't that ONE might reasonably neglect to obtain information about the "medicine" he was ingesting... it's whether it's reasonable to allow that BONDS did. What he claimed is tantamount to a person with Asperger's who is absolutely obsessive-compulsive about timekeeping claiming that they forgot to set an alarm one day as an alibi. And yes, this is a gigantic waste of time and money. Drawing Asperger's comparisons is beyond me, I don't understand it well enough to extrapolate. But wouldn't it be similar to that person trusting something enough to be true, say the digital clock in the bathroom, that he himself did not set, but a trusted friend/advisor/trainer? He trusts it's the correct time through the proxy of trusting that person? That's disease stuff though, I'm thinking more conspiracy angle. They purposely didn't discuss the exact details of what he was taking to allow for that plausable deniability. You see in in 24 all the time. "I'll take care of Bauer Mr. President. Don't you worry about a thing. As far as you know, he fled the country."

Posada is way too old and unhappy being a DH. Jeter is coming off his worst year and is old, Granderson's hurt, Swisher and Gardner won't even smell last season's success, Texiera is a robotic douchebag, A-Rod's a total fraud, the pitching staff is loaded with aging and obese dickwads, they had a really shitty offseason and teams like Boston and Baltimore are getting better. Don't count out the Rays either. And Toronto always seems to finish around .500. Don't forget the A.J. Burnett adventures.

Later in the afternoon, Milwaukee at Cincinnati, Anaheim at Kansas City, San Diego at St. Louis, and tonight, San Francisco at Los Angeles. Among today's scheduled starting pitchers is one former Met: The Nationals' Livan Hernandez. It will be either Livan or C.C. Sabathia who throws the first pitch of the season. This means the Mets will start the season in second place. shucks. I'm so desperate for baseball i'm taking a late lunch and catching the beginning of the Tigers game at Houlihans.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: How would they not? Their Rule 5-ness practically guarantees they'll be getting the innings, so unless they are complete busts they will compile. Well I assume by candidate you meant they'd actually get a vote at the end of the year, not just be on the list of rookies via compilation. Did Venters for Atlanta get votes last year? I assume that's Beato's ceiling. Emaus though, could be a serious candidate. Especially since if he sticks through the year, it probably means he was good enough not to lose the job to Murphy or Turner or Tejada or someone.

Then, with Paulino on the shelf and Young & Capuano not scheduled for a few days, a variety of PHers and relievers to follow depending on the order in which they're used. Yes... soon the mystery of the 900th Met will be solved. The count has been at 895 since the end of the 2010 season. We got a wager going? I'm going Byrdak.
  16. Didn't the Mets announce Harris starting? (Duda and Beltran both won't be in RF regardless)
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: We'll have 11 new players right off the bat including 2 ROY candidates. Fun. Emaus.. and? You counting Duda? Nickeas? I think those are the only other two rookies right? Or Beato? No I mean Beato. He's gonna Beato people's face in. I know I'm pronouncing it wrong. Shoulda said at least 2. Man, imagine how much people will rave about Alderson and Co if they pull two guys away from other teams that didn't want them and they compete for ROY?

  20. Because bad or good season, I expect more wins than losses, particularly at home where I'll attend games. To separate everything else out, there's little as enjoyable as taking in a Mets game at Citi Field and watching them win.
  21. The whole thing just seems ridiculous to me. It's like if you told me you had a headache everytime we met, and i gave you medicine. (plenty of people use it, don't worry, it's safe. no big deal) You could love the stuff and think it works great and even talk about the 'pain meds' Ceetar gave you that work so well without me ever using the word Codeine. Is it so far fetched that they keep the details of the makeup of the drugs from Bonds? It just seems to be a waste of time to fight over this.

As good a reason as any to bring Ben's Chili and Primanti's to Citi Field. I'd take SF garlic fries and Chickie and Petes personally. Or add a good cheesesteak (doesn't have to be those 'just as good as most random places in NY' places from Philly)
  23. metirish wrote: The Mets will not announce until Thursday that Bay is going to the DL, what's the Logic there? For good measure they will not place Santana on DL until Thursday either. They'll do all there transactions in one go around I guess. Presumably Santana is headed to the 60day. The way things are going, it's probably better this way. If someone trips on a crack and stubs a toe overnight and has to be DL'd, theynot have already set the roster yet.

Columbus and 77th... in New York, yes? Grumblegrumblegrumble. That was actually there second location. lines are a little shorter. But..why don't we have a Grimaldi's at Citi? long running sponsors with those other places? (the pizza in Citi is actually pretty good. so is the lasagna.) Grimaldi's is another place that's expanding (Vegas, Hoboken) . I had margarita style pizza like that cooked in a makeshift oven on a sidewalk in brooklyn last weekend, so i'm sure they could do that at Citi Field.
  25. I mean, everyone wants to copy NY. look at McFaddens.
