  1. first XBH for Cora with a lead off double. That should hold him for the month.
  2. good fielding decision by LaRoche, decides to go to first with the slow-footed Ike chugging home in front of him. oh boo, home run for the egyptian god. no, that's Ra, not ramos. silly me. This is Ramos.
  3. Espinosa 4, Ankiel 8, Werthless 9, The Roach 3, Ramos 2, Morse 7, Not Our Hairston 5, Cora 6, Zimmermann 1

I could live without a Mets 2B candidate on the ballot. It's not going to influence my official licensed apparel shopping decisions one way or the other, which I assume is the kind of thing MLB worries about more than reflecting reality. Can you even _buy_ a Brad Emaus Mets jersey?
  5. Honestly, it's going to take something stupid happening for them to fix the silly way this is handled..like Brad Emaus making it for the Mets. Now here's something that does piss me off. Wasn't Reyes not on the ballot last year due to not being ready to go Opening Day? Chase Utley is on the ballot.. edit: maybe I'm hallucinating?

A deeper draft means there should be less of a reason to "overpay" high up, but that was never really the Mets' problem in the first place. Where they've skimped in the past was in not taking a chance in the later rounds either on a HS kid oozing with potential but a long way from polished, or on the college kid with options like another year remaining or a football option that he can parlay into a bigger bonus. Bottom line is none of this should affect the #13 pick and probably not the 44th either. Like Podesta said in that link, over-spending isn't something you do just to do it but also something you shouldn't be afraid to do if you see an opportunity that could pay off in the long run. The interesting team this year should be Tampa who don't have a pick in the top 23 but then have a stunning 12 picks in the next 65 Presumably they'll be a good team to waotch in coming years as those 12 picks can become trade bait and rule 5 fodder that doesn't fit on the roster.

    Game times

Is it me or are game times being really successfully controlled this year? I speak as a man who has only seen games involving the Mets, but... the last two games, with 10 and 12 runs scored and seven and six pitcher changes respectively, each clocked in at 2:48. The games of the Washington series all came in over three hours, and the 11-inning finale went near four, but that was a pretty cold stretch. The team's average is about three hours, which is no great accomplishment, but only one of the last nine games has gone over three, as the weather has warmed a little. I'm not sure if it's a matter of the league mandates to the umps being effective so much as maybe fewer close games and the Mets having only one lefty reliever, who has been generally ineffective, leading to fewer mid-inning pitcher changes. But I tell you, it's been a pleasingly crisp week of Mets baseball in more ways than one. And that's good, because all my favorite radio ads are gone. New York Auto Giant Dot Com, whither goest thou? Is it gone? I think I heard the Atlantic Hyundai (part of the New York..blah ) the other day. It's too early for me to notice the game times. But yeah, I haven't felt any of that grinding 40 minutes with like one half inning feeling this year.

  11. Gardner hitting a robust .138 now.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: Didn't realize until just a few minutes ago that the Nats are finishing up their series in Pitt tonight. So we can root for a long extra-inning game there with multiple relief pitchers needed. Atlanta also finishing a 'wrap-around' series in San Fran tonight. Phils get to play Arizona now. Hard to see the Diamondbacks getting swept back to back. Maybe they're due for a little bounceback now? I was kinda hoping the Phillies would play lackluster baseball and start not hitting so we could be in striking distance when we play them to try to wash the bad start taste out of our mouths, but that seems unlikely now.
  13. Wednesday night. Clubhouse is the last two sections of the middle level. Of course, this was a wednesday in April, not exactly prime time for whatever the target audience is. I think Prom reserved (the upper section in the picture) is cheaper.

  15. G-Fafif wrote: Fans of whoever my team is playing or needs to lose so my team can advance is the deeper answer. Caveat: If I'm in the vicinity of fair-weather fans, like the Nats kind, they're worse. If I'm in Philadelphia, they're worse. I'm situationally oriented. Heavily situational. '07 I was at the closing of RFK and the Nats fans weren't really into anything. Of course, it was the last week of a bad season, but still. Let those scum phillies fans invade your building and tailgate and cheer like it's their own? Still, the worst is the fan who's not really a fan. The ones that scream Yankees rule or Mets suck at you but probably wouldn't know which team Albert Pujols plays for. They're the ones gabbing on the phone in the 4th inning of the game that don't know the score.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: That may be the Shake Shackers' choice. Meanwhle, that burger in that perspective looks like a beast in a horror film. It's the BLOB!! That picture is actually taken from BJ's Clubhouse. The difference is probably wait time. I waited for ~20-30 minutes on the Shake Shack line..at 6:15..on Friday for a burger. Once they get things down at Keith's hopefully it's a quick line. (I waited 20 minutes for that on Wednesday in the third inning) Of course, there are better viewing angles of TVs at Shake Shack, versus Keith's being tucked in a corner with no great viewing angles.
  17. yeah, I think one of the benefits of not signing any "name brand" relievers was that it helps with flexbility and it seems like they're going with a "fill the spots with guys that can pitch" philosophy. I'll be interested to see how Collins uses it with Gee.

FK--yes, don't mess with me--I'm a bad ass. You've captured DC sports fans very well. It was completely random. credit Google for the cleverness, because I edited the image in Picnik using their 'stickers' and the baseball ones were 'premium only' so I picked that one instead. Looks like you've got good seats though. I haven't been to that park yet, I closed out RFK, need to get back sometime this year if I can.
  19. So what's the story on this Jeter book I'm hearing about that exposes him as the whinny selfish SOB we all know him as?
  20. My only request is an image of the Nats park so we can see where you're sitting. I guess I can do that. it appears you're on the Wright side of the field.
  21. Gwreck wrote: Great game. Wish we could play the Diamondbacks every week. I will enthusiastically endorse the "Mex Burger" at the "Keith's Grill" stand in left field. Cheddar, Pepper Jack, Chipotle Aioli, Bacon and Guacamole. Served with chips and -- this is the funniest part -- a tootsie roll pop. Excellent food and marketing. yes, it's good stuff. I had on last Wednesday. I need to try to Gold Glove burger.

Guess it would rain until the dogs went home, but skies parted and it was a lovely enough day at Citi Field. Sat way out in right field, 403, accompanied by about twenty twentysomethings enjoying somebody's birthday which included not a flower cake but a flask of vodka. It was passed around enough so its impace on any one celebrant was diluted. Delighted in shouting at Enright that he's a MEDIOCRITY! even though my lingering rasp made me a mediocre heckler. I would've left Beato in for the eighth, but who's complaining? Kid's outstanding. Having now sampled all of the clubs Citi Field has to offer, excepting the actual sit down and eat portions, I can say with some certainty. "eh".
