  2. G-Fafif wrote: Ojeda saying Mets have some guy who mostly care about their stats. Seeing as how very few of them have stats worth caring about, I can't imagine who he means. Ojeda was spewing a lot of nonsense. I'm not sure who he means either. Who put up any stats at all? Turner hitting a home run in a lost cause? Did he have a whole spiel about lack of power planned and didn't want to use it in light of the homer? Beato? Clearly he started pitching well enough for outs just after he ran out of inherited runners to score?

So what turns a career (6 years 2004-2009) .238 hitter who averaged 10 HRs and 35 RBI into the next Albert Pujos? I don't know about "the next Albert Pujols," because being the best over the last 12 months hardly guarnatees a sustained decade of awesome, but my first guess would be copious amounts of phamaceuticals, but the Washington Post says it's a swing change. What's hilarious is that there is so much matchup data and history for him and I bet many teams are still using it for scouting reports when it's so clear he's a different guy.

Our little surprise, eh, guys? Play the "somewhere over the rainbow" song on the way the game and then claim "Don't say I didn't warn you!"

  11. The last two years that I could tell they only had knishes at the kosher stands for the most part. They burnt it the one time I got it, which just reminded me of Shea. This year they've got more knish ads up and I see them on more menus. Might be time to try again if the line is long elsewhere.
  12. I keep meaning to attempt to photoshop it, but I think it'd be interesting if they literally just extended the RF seats down to the ground and put up a short, 5 foot clear fence in front of it. the front rows would be basically 'field level' which would be kind of cool. The draw back would be the Pepsi Porch would nolonger be an overhang, although the actual overhang is rather disappointingly small to me. But you could perhaps extend it out a wee bit (not lower just more forward) and put in a standing area in the front of it. One day when the Mets actually sell SRO tickets (you know, when they make the playoffs and are looking for a way to get an extra 3k people into the park) it'll be a fun place to stand.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: Reyes and Wright are of an age when, were they free agents coming from another team, would be (mostly) viewed as good signings for 2013 and 2014. Wouldn't they? Pretty much. The Mets visit Milwaukee next week. Milwaukee may be one of those teams shopping for a SS. I suspect we'll hear some 'rumors' about Brewer interest in Jose Reyes, who would add a rather tasty hop profile to the Brewer lineup.
  14. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: I don't think that McCullough's necessarily talking in absolutes, that rant notwithstanding. His comments seem more about expectation, and what to look for from this group. They CAN contend this year, or next. Do they have a legit, realistic expectation of doing so? While Alderson and the gang are all about maximizing on-field output, I doubt even they would tell you that they EXPECT to win a division before 2013. And Zambrano's a move that might be possibly a little good now, but "won't be much help later" severely understates the effect on roster construction he'd have through 2013. Honestly Zambrano's just a random name I picked off the top of my head. I'm not even sure what the list of expiring contract pitchers the Mets could go after is. I'd forgotten Big Z still has years left.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: I think the only appropiate way would be a playable fly to the opposite field warning track that a 10-year-old reaches out for over the glove of the waiting rightfielder and grabs. How hard are they going to play this up? give him a day off here and there on the road so that he breaks it at home? Oooh, how about a meaningless squibb single in the bottom of the 9th at home in a game the Yankees are losing 13-1 and the entire crowd has left?
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Short-term plans are overstated also. I've very suspicious of the on-the-bus/off-the-bus mindset. Approaches can be diversified. and so far I trust Alderson understands this. But then, I felt like Omar understood it too, but then seemed to spiral into win-now moves to justify last years win-now moves and the glue inbetween fell apart. A team with a 100-145 million dollar payroll is capable of doing both. They can make decisions that are both good for now, and later. (Keeping Reyes) They can make moves that are good for just later and get some prospects or work the draft. They can also do moves that made good now, but won't be much help later. Signing a Carlos Zambrano at the deadline for prospects he's soured on for instance.
  17. Wait, when did Alderson give notice that we're not going to try to compete until 2014 and wait until we hear it from him first? I haven't unfollowed Andy yet for some reason. Maybe he just hasn't pissed me off enough? I think him, DiComo and Popper are the only traditional guys i still follow.

I had them in 2009. They're good. messy for a ballpark. Do not eat them on freezing April evenings when your hands are numb, dry and chapped. ouch.
  19. My question if I bothered with these things would've been "Do you think the Mets need to add a bat while they wait for Ike and David, and do you think the Yankees would be willing to trade Cano right now given that they can just sign him back after the season?" I mean, I know what the answer is, both the real answer and the Mets are doomed answer I'd probably get, but it's still fun to try.
  20. excuse me, I now need to visit the dieting thread.
  21. HahnSolo wrote: Meaning I guess you don't need multiple wall heights and fences jutting in and out every 10 feet to give the park some "quirks". By chance do you have a chart comparison of Citi to NYS? I know you get this in many parks where the LF stands just end, but that vertical wall at CBP in left center always annoys me. 2 inches to the left it's off the wall, 2 inches the other way it's way over the fence.

That's a good one. I'd love the ump to call him safe when he's like halfway down the line. make the play completely about something else rather than the hit.
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Less than a score from hit 3000, so brace yourself for an orgy of Jetermania. I'm trying to think of the least awesome way he can get 3000. Afternoon game against the Reds, one of those squib hits that somehow finds noone to boost his .350 BABIP and doesn't score the tying run from second and the Yankees lose? Either that or a towering 450 home run..that turns out to be his last home run ever and he declines even further from that very moment to the point that in late September when the Yankees are tanking and missing the playoffs Hank Steinbrenner mouths off about how Jeter was only about 3000 and stopped trying afterwards.
