  1. hoping to get some blog posts written and scheduled, but that's every night. Going to either flip on the Dodgers game (they're playing the Phillies on ESPN) or play some MLB the Show.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I just hope it's not the Mets. geeze. That would be horrible. It'd be about as close to buying a Cano jersey as I could get.
  3. Edgy DC wrote: Everybody in baseball isn't making the money they hoped to make. Nine teams are in violation of of MLB's debt service rules. Jimmy Rollins is out there competing for offers. If you're a leading shortstop on the free agent market, this isn't the ideal season. I still think he'll see $20 million per year over at least five years. The best part is someone is going to drastically overpay for Rollins. I'm not sure I hope it's the Phillies or not.
  4. Yeah, I've been sorta thinking of it along the lines of "Give him Castillo's money". I really thought they'd work out an extension in the Spring, but i wonder if Madoff/finances messed with that. After all, things like payroll taxes and bonuses would've had to come from this years budget if they signed him preseason. Now that all becomes next season stuff, and with the sale finalizing, the immediate economic future of the team (not Sterling obviously) is somewhat predictable and budgetable. It would make good PR sense too. Quiet down the fans, show them you do care about th em, and have the national audience talk about a lifelong Met at the All-Star Game instead of salivating and making up trade rumors when Reyes talks to say Tim Lincecum.
  5. Actually, I guess to really make it fair you have say "bonus for passing Kranepool". Giving him a bonus for becoming the franchise leader in hits might be too close to saying "You get a million if you're better than David Wright"
  6. What I'd start offering him? 90/5, that's $18 million a year. I'd auto-vest a 6th year at $20 ($2 buyout) based on 700 games played (140 per) and maybe a 7th based on 140 in year 6. Then I'd give him bonuses. Lots and lots of bonuses. 1 million or breaking the Mets all-time hits mark (the first time) 1 million for 1000 steals. 1 million for active leader in triples. things like that.
  7. I feel almost bad for some of the mock drafters sometimes. They put all this work into guessing which order guys are going into just to try to inform people days earlier which guys might end up in their systems and not show up in the majors for years anyway. And most of that work is rendered useless or just plain wrong come draft time.
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Dudes with the 'don't trade Reyes' banner pictured in the Snooze today apparently were kicked out of the park. I was talking with the guy in the orange shirt at McFadden's last night. Meanwhile on a related topic, Bill Madden with about the worst piece of shit he's ever written this morning. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2011/06/06/2011-06-06_to_do_wright_by_david_club_should_do_him_a_favor__deal.html Ted Berg already killed Madden for that one. Drivel. I'm not going to read it. Yeah, The7line guy is getting around. Called in to Boomer and Carton (actually they hunted him down as they were grossly misunderstanding the situation but at least they got him on and got the real facts. the news/traffic woman usually wears the shirts) is on Metsblog.
  9. You think they're going to drag this out and torture us all the way into the free-free agent period? Or will they sign an extension this summer?
  10. Edgy DC wrote: Smoly crap, I wasn't looking to sweat this one. well, i was against Acosta making the team all year. Didn't seem to prove me wrong there.
  11. Tweet from the guy that was holding the Reyes sign shown earlier tonight: The7Line Was just kicked out of the stadium because my sign said .com #Mets #FuckSecurity Idiot. If you're going to plug a URL at a sporting event, you stencil it into the tanline of your wife's cleavage. Duh. same sign he had at the rally Friday. So it apparently just took two days to find a justification to kick him out. (He said he offered to ditch the sign) Also, certainly sends a mixed message with your mascot poses with the sign which would imply approval. The solution is simple though, if you filled the market with Mets shirts that Mets fans actually wanted, there would be no need to buy the7line stuff. (which, btw, I'm sure the Mets are pissed that you can buy literally across the street from the bullpen gate)
  12. Gwreck wrote: Nice KTE. Love the bears. Any idea where Heyward is? Heyward has been sidelined since May 22 with recurring soreness in his right shoulder. The 21-year-old outfielder doesn't plan to resume hitting until he feels right, so he's still a couple weeks away in all likelihood. While the Braves need his production in their lineup, they certainly aren't going to risk his future
  13. bmfc1 wrote: "Mets roster update: RHP Dale Thayer and RHP Manny Acosta switched numbers...Thayer is wearing #36 and Acosta is now #46." Damn. I just bought a Thayer, 46 jersey. that's confusing. Also, damn that Oliver Perez for not giving up his number to Acosta who clearly wanted it. (he switched to it from 62 in 2007 with the Braves) bbtn.net doesn't give me much info about why/who 46 was that he didn't get it immediately. not really interesting, or relevant, but confusing. B-r.com doesn't mention the 46 for Royce Ring, but baseball almanac does (but agrees he also wore the 34). Ring was traded to the Braves from the Padres. Acosta was up early, came back late, presumably after (augst 12th) Ring had been acquired. B-R says he wore 62 and 46 that year, but Almanac says only 46.
  14. Don't forget Mark Lowe. That bum struck out Delgado and Tatis in his only 2IP against us back in 2008 to perserve the 11-0 win in R.A. Dickey's first and last appearance at Shea Stadium. Can't trust that guy.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: Hairston is a baseball lifer and I have no doubt he makes himself useful in ways that don't show up in the boxscore. Here's hoping he upgrades the boxscore stuff. He seems to lead the team in mammoth tomahawk would-be homers down the leftfield line that go just foul. Sheffield led that one in 2009. Wonder who led last year? Barajas probably.
  16. Ceetar wrote: Wanna know what Justin Turner's eating to fuel up for the game? Carnitas quesadillas compliments of home made tortillas from Scott Hairistons mom! So good! http://t.co/ylbWnsW This also sets up some jokes about Scott Hairston being more productive working at the taco stand in center field, but that'd be mean.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: Dan Uggla is the guy they're hoping will come around? Let me check and... Wow, I don't know if it'll make the KTE, but Uggla has been awful. Like, he dreams of someday being Jason Bay-awful. .175 / .241 / .316 // .557. And some Mets fans wanted him. Imagine if we had both those guys (and no T urner?)

  19. G-Fafif wrote: They also moved tomorrow's game (June 4th) from an afternoon game to a night game. Self-absorption compels me to say it works well for me. likewise. Although I'll be in Mass and it doesn't seem promising that i'll get to watch it. But it's been 7 the whole time hasn't it? My wall calendar says 7:10 for tomorrow. unless they changed it and then changed it back?
  20. It's also the Don't Trade Reyes facebook/7line game. Gatherers will be on the bridge wearing the don't trade Reyes shirts. Burkhardt says they'll probably show them during the broadcast.
  21. Jeter still a top SS Scouts liked Jeter over the Mets' Jose Reyes because of Jeter's durability. The Blue Jays' Escobar wasn't a lock over Jeter among the five scouts we spoke with. With the criteria only being who would you want for this season, the scout said he would put Jeter at No. 9 on his list. Those ahead of Jeter were the Rockies' Troy Tulowitzki, the Phillies' Jimmy Rollins, the Cubs' Starlin Castro, the Braves' Alex Gonzalez, the Indians' Asdrubal Cabrera, the Rangers' Elvis Andrus, the Blue Jays' Yunel Escobar and the White Sox's Alexei Ramirez. barf.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: There was no righty there, was there? Seems to me Murphy was the clear choice. Either Wayne or Howie said there was. Was Hairston used already? I was at work so the stuff before that is fuzzy. Maybe not.

A couple of disagreements but very minor on my radar so far. Bullpen? -- I dunno. When the relievers get guys out the manager looks like a genius and when they don't (or when the left-in starter gives it up) he looks like a dope. Terry isn't trying to shoe-horn someone into specific roles the way Jerry did and then toss them aside for another attempt. Yeah, he's too by the book with the closer but that puts him in with the other 29 skippers currently drawing paychecks and most of the questions I've had about who was brought in and when falls more in the 'reasonable people can disagree' category than in 'WTF?!?!' territory. The Frankie stuff is driving fans nuts mainly because of of the vesting clause although that part really shouldn't concern him. Management -- Jerry's light-hearted Q&A's sounded, at first anyway, like a breath of fresh air compared to Willie's dour "I'm a winner" insistence, and now Terry's bluntness comes as a welcome change from the 'everything's fine' metronome of his predecessors. We like that he got mad last night because we did, but is he truly better at people mgmt or is the style just fresher? ... probably too soon to tell. In all, I'm somewhat north of 'Meh' but probably a bit below 'Like'. Let's go with a B- even though 1/3 of one season is too quick to cling too tightly to a specific grade on anyone. I think it's too early to tell. I think he's doing a lot of safe things with bunts and handedness but there have been signs as guys earn (or unearn) roles he's willing to do something differently. Pinch hitting Murphy against a lefty? Granted it might've had more to do with the short bench, but it worked. Learning who he can trust and he he can't in what situations and he'll have that to go off of in August and September instead of the book.
  25. smg58 wrote: When Howie said this would be the biggest comeback win in eleven years, I thought to myself, what about that game against the Braves? Then I remembered, that was eleven years ago. If the Mets make something of this season, this game will be looked on as the turning point. Well, that 2000 game made the World Series video.
