  1. I'd prefer less than more though I do like Burkhardt. He does call the action usually while he's doing the interview, which makes you think he'd rather be watching the game too.
  2. MFS62 wrote: Here's the scenario for the hit, as I posted it in another thread. This seems to be a better place for it. Yanks down by a run, bottom of the ninth. Runners on first and third, two out, Jeter up. He hits a ball to the right side that hits the runner between first and second. The runner is called out, but, by rule he is credited with his 3,000th hit. Game over. Yankees lose! Yankees Lose! And the 3,000th hit is tainted (it wasn't a clean hit). Forever. If it happens it should be "awarded" to the official scorer and not held against any pitcher. Later John Sterling: "It's 3-2 Mets. Martin is on third, and Gardner on first. There are two men out in the bottom of the 9th. Here's the pitch from K-Rod to Jeter, who needs just one hit to 3000, and oh what a time for that hit right now. He swings, and it's hit hard to the right on a couple of bounces! Turner, err Tejada fields and he just holds on to it! No throw! Jeter really busted it down the line and Tejada must've felt like he didn't have a chance. #3000 for the Captain ties the game! El Capi....wait, they're coming off the field? Now they're saying it hit Gardner and he's out! Suzyn: "Yeah John, it hit off his back leg as he was running to second. The runner is out but the hit counts. What a way to do it." John: "Oh. Ballgame over. Mets win, sweeping the Yankees at home."
  3. around the league..my pick of Verlander for AL Cy Young looking pretty good.
  4. screw you Braves, take one.
  5. Edgy DC wrote: One out. two actually.
  6. Fman99 wrote: I hate the in-game interviews with the pitcher. Leave that shit for Ojeda and DJ Chunky. I'm okay with it, but the random reliever that pitches to two batters? eh. If Niese pitches 7 scoreless in a 1-run game or something, sure.
  7. G-Fafif wrote: Don't trade Reyes.
  8. G-Fafif wrote: Comes off 6/28, they're in 7/1, 7/2, 73...oh yeah, we're fucked. woah there, earliest he can come off is 6/28. Personally I'd be surprised if he does. And if he does, rust plus sucking already plus tentative on the calf? he'll still need 6 when he leaves Flushing.
  9. Most of Jeter's comments in this golden calf press conference would be a lot more enlightening if you appended the silent "I'm Derek Fucking Jeter" after them.
  10. metirish wrote: Is that really the idea?, fucking hell if it is, and fucking hell if he agrees with that sort of thinking. I'm just guessing. he's got really poor numbers against JJ.
  11. metirish wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Bay on the pine again. What to do with him?, sitting him for a day then playing him for two and sitting him again isn't working. Well, the idea here is to sit him against those 'really tough' guys figuring he's more likely to 'break out' against someone less tough on him. I personally don't agree, in fact, maybe bearing down to face a tougher opponent helps raise his level of play. Maybe he can have a key pinch hit off Venters or something. Who, btw, always makes me wonder if he has a brother Marvin Gardens.
  12. Edgy DC wrote: Trying to get maximum PR value out of a signing may be too much of an over-reach. ("Rawjah Clemens is on Jawge's box!") Getting it done for it's own sake is going to be hard enough. True. I just mean getting it done by the All-Star Game though, so we dont' have to sit through the trade rumors at the game whenever Reyes gets cozy with another star.
  13. Craig Carton really hopes Jon Sterling screws up the call. and now I do too.

  15. G-Fafif wrote: 3) Someone who covers the team daily is surprised that a player acknowledged by all to be among the most vibrant and passionate in the sport takes his potential selection by the public at large seriously. Sounds like someone could really use the All-Star break to take some much-needed time off, and it isn't Jose Reyes. And it's not an act either. I remember how bummed he was..last year? when the oblique was bothering him and he couldn't play. He was still there, and named to the team, but was upset he couldn't get in the game. Three days (four this year right?) of no baseball for Reyes is like..well, three or four days of no baseball to us.
  16. From a PR standpoint, how about Reyes just before the All-Star Game. Then on a national stage the Mets get talked about as being loyal to their fanbase, keeping one of the best players in the game, and on some level dispell some of the 'too broke to compete' stuff.
  17. Ashie62 wrote: Have the Mets breathed even a hint of what they may do about Reyes? the end of July is not that far off.. I think Alderson said yesterday they haven't not gotten to the point of talking or something wit hthe agent, who's overseas atm?
  18. TransMonk wrote: The end of that game was yucky. The beginning wasn't great either as Pelfrey wasn't quite sharp and the umpires were on hallucinagins.
  19. themetfairy wrote: Charming - SNY is back to showing the fucking "Jeter's Got An Edge" ads. I've seen three different ones so far.
  20. Pelfrey gives up an unearned run on a ridiculous obstruction call. Not only was Reyes not in the baseline (rule is 3 feet from the line between the bases) he stepped out of the way. Stupid umps.
  21. Wayne Hagin claims Pelfrey is going to debut his cutter today. First I've heard that, but I doubt he's making it up?
  22. G-Fafif wrote: Huey Lewis leaves good Met vibes behind at PNC. Ain't no livin' in a perfect world, but three of four would be nice. especially since it puts them back at .500
  23. Niese 4.0 Pridie 2.0 Tejada 1.0 Pagan 0.5 Murphy 0.5 Rodriguez 0.5 Beltran 0.5 Thole 0.5
  24. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Having him call PBP is like putting Byrdak up against a solid pair of righties-- it doesn't put him in a success-conducive position. Slot him at full-time color, and I don't have nearly the same objection. Yeah. this works for me. I do think he's at least semi-insightful.
  25. Ashie62 wrote: Rest assured the Mets will find a way to fuck this up. I'm sure we'll be debating for years if it should be 37 14 41 42 5 7 37 14 41 42 7 5 37 14 41 5 7 42 37 14 41 7 5 42 (of course, there will be a 31 in there somewhere too)
