  1. biggest example of the Yankee ignorance is how they celebrated Jeter passing Gehrig and totally ignored him passing Ruth.

  3. bmfc1 wrote: I checked and it looks like the Rays had the right to veto the split DH because they already have two split DH's scheduled for the year. In April, that wasn't so for the Mets so MLB rules permitted the Braves to schedule games to their competitive advantage. (Why is two the number?) From the NY Post: League rules gave the Rays (and Yankees) a choice about the day-night doubleheader, because each team already has two split double-headers scheduled later this season. Of course, the MFYs could have scheduled a single-admission DH without needing approval from Tampa but they opted not to do that. Didn't realize they had 2, yeah, that's it. Mets have had two as well. it's in the CBA. There's a lot of stuff in there. (The Cubs and Red Sox have specific clauses that state that single-admission doubleheaders are not considered a practical option or someting) There's a clause saying TV agreements trump the rules, but I think that's more related to start times. If I were the PA, that's sometihng I'd want renegotiated in th next one
  4. Sad I missed it, but I did catch the last RBI on the radio while driving through Newark, NJ on my way back from Barcade. (You mean I can play Qbert on an arcade while drinking an amzing Brooklyn Brew?)

Especially since if they're hurt, Jeter would make them better. Later It's not up to Tampa, it was never up to Tampa, this was always a Yankee decision. whee..
  6. as is their right? Remember (and Steve Popper just brought this up too) when the Braves supposedly forced the Mets to play a doubleheader early on this season? So did they have a say or not? Maybe the Yankees don't actually want to play a doubleheader (injuries abound!) and are just blaming the Rays?
  7. awww, how sad. The game got rained out. little jetes will only have 2 games to try to scrounge together two soft grounders that the fielders can't get to. Don't you just feel bad for those fans that paid over face on Stubhub that now have to sit through a late August Rays/Yanks game?
  8. bmfc1 wrote: Jeter: out of the All-Star Game... will the game be canceled? he learned that the PA guy that would announce him into the game was actually alive.
  9. attgig wrote: wait so, if there's an icon for 3k hits, jeter won't wear it? Not unless it's an icon of his face and there is an HBO special to unveil the logo.
  10. attgig wrote: I like it edgy. I do concur with grimm that we need a pic for roy. same with cy young, rolaids relief, a 3 crown for triple crown winners, and MVP...though MVP I feel like should be letters.... yeah. that'd be cool. I like it.
  11. I've got a Yellow '06 Reyes shirt. Don't think I'd buy an All-Star Jersey though.
  12. sharpie wrote: Ceetar, no fair using material from your researched and detailed KTE in my thrown-together-at-the-last-minute one. sorry! (although I should point out I threw that together at the last minute too) I was just curious on how I wrote Vogelsong up given that at that point he was a journeyman scrub and now he's an All-Star.
  13. I like it in theory, but what's next? MVP patches? I think it could create a caste system of sorts on the field, which wouldn't be the best thing for a team sport. (and now i'm surprised the NBA doesn't do this)
  14. We're facing --- what is it? --- seven All-Star starters in a row? Vogelsong strikes fear into my very soul. What I wrote for the last KTE on him. oops. (btw, this KTE didn't get archived: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16099) He pitched against Dickey last time too. Vogelsong is the Giants version of Jason Isringhausen, Drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 5th round of the 1998 amateur draft he was traded by the San Francisco Giants with Armando Rios to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Jason Schmidt and John Vander Wal. The Giants had only really used him as a mop-up reliever through 24.2 innings, and the Pirates made him a starter. He wasn't really successful at either role. He was granted free agency after 2006, pitched in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes and the Hanshin Tigers, and didn't show up in the majors until 2010 where he signed free agent contracts with the Phillies and the Angels, being used by neither of them on the major league roster. He signed with the Giants again on 1/11/11. He struck out 17 in 11.1 innings this year in the minors and got the call when Zito went on the DL. This will be his fourth appearance and second start. He's got a 1.74 ERA and 11 Ks in 10.1 innings. In three games, one start, against the Mets he's got 1 win over 9 innings and a 1.0 ERA. The Mets starter in that game? Aaron Heilman. The only Met to drive in a run? Miguel Cairo drove in Ramon Castro back in July of 2005. Beltran is 0/1, Wright 2/5, Reyes 0/1.

I flipped on the game in the car last night, usually prefering baseball to talk..but after Jeter's hit i thought "Ugh, not putting up with _that_"

Edgy's right. They need someone who can play short for at least a few games in a row if Tejada needs a rest. Later I disagree, if Tejada needs a couple of games, send him down for someone else. What I think they need is someone that won't embarrass them at SS the rest of the game if they want/need to PH for Tejada in a key 7th/8th inning AB. Someone must have asked this of Alderson right? Maybe way back when they sent Hu away?
  17. I went with a bottle of Cricket Hill - Jersey Summer Breakfast Ale
  18. Ashie62 wrote: Alderson says Reyes may be out more than 3 weeks. This big start by Reyes WAS A FUCKING TEASE!!!!! He said 7-10 days was unlikely, 2-3 weeks was more like it, especially factoring in how Reyes has felt. He wouldn't commit to him being back on the 18th, saying he wasn't sure.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Wayne praising Beltran... by comparing him to Derek Jeter. Because, you know, Jeter does things behind the scenes where nobody can see it. Except HBO. I heard someone..was ESPN so whichever those two stupid new guys are during the day (still better than Cowherd) today mention this story about some no-name Yankee roster invitee in Spring Training, and day 1 Jeter goes up to him and says "Welcome, I'm Derek Jeter, i hope you can help us win a championship" he touted it as him being all about winning, but who is he to taking a guy that's an extreme long shot and talking to him about the World Series? pressure much? Like he's only useful if he contributes to that? Also, what about how Jeter's 3000hit is becoming a distraction and letting the Rays back into the division race. 3 games behind the Yankees now. btw, Vin Scully says he'll discuss the Dodgers finances when the lawyers suit up and starting throwing and hitting the baseball.

None of those shows are particularly watchable. I only watch them in bars. Tierney used to be the midday radio guy, with Jody Macdonald, and was canned. People do seem to like them though, but he seems pretty blah to me and mostly conservative in his thinking of sports. (not that most of those guys aren't) Bow to the intangibles and all that. I got into a fight with him on TWitter briefly in May.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I can't count how many times day-to-day has turned into week-to-week. Ike Davis and David Wright started out day-to-day too, as I recall. Nah, Wright was always at least the DL stint and even that seemed a long shot. They didn't DL him for the first game because he wanted that second opinion, but Terry wouldn't even pinch hit him. I do think Davis was, but that turned into "2 weeks off" real fast when he couldn't run and still felt pain. Dickey's been "day to day" and even "will miss his next start" a couple of times this season but hasn't missed a beat. (just for the "everything always gets worse" crowd) Capuano too. (funny, the old guy and the 2-TJ guy have bounced back from aches and pains pretty well) Turner hurt his thumb and didn't require DL time/it didn't fall off. Beltran experienced a set back (way back in Spring Training) and yet showed up right on time.

I'm not confused on that point. I meant to suggest that he deserves at least as much room to fail in his quest to succeed as Duda has enjoyed, or perhaps merely at least as much as Duda gets going forward. Yeah. that's what I meant. I thought you were inferring to how successful Duda was in AAA before his callup. regardless, someone said Evans is in the lineup tonight.

  25. Vic Sage wrote: i think Evans/Duda should be in a strict platoon at 1b until Wright comes back, at which point Duda goes down and Murphy plays 1b (with Evans against some [not all] LHPs). If and when Davis comes back, Murphy/Turner can platoon at 2b, with Tejada going down (or playing SS if Jose goes bye bye). If Beltran gets traded, I'd prefer a Duda/Evans platoon in RF, or F-Mart (if healthy) full time. I keep waiting for Evans to make an impact against major league pitching. maybe this time. the last couple of times he hasn't been so rip-roaringly hot when he got the call. Maybe this time is the time, helps them win some games.
