  2. what, does no one watch baseball anymore? This game has sudden 6 run outburst chasing Vazquez written all over it.
  3. I was never overly enamored by Waldstein. One of these guys that never really impacted me and occasionally i saw something he wrote and was rarely wowed. eh, let him go. New guy looks youngish. Fresh blood could be good.

I wouldn't go that far. Take Johnny Damon (probably not an unreasonable comparison either) after the '09 season. Was asking for the moon ended up with like 2/12 or something. edit: supposed the Yankees offered 2/12. He was hodling out for like 3/30 + or some such. signed for 1/8.

I'm starting to think that maybe his declining performance the last year or so was due to a steadily degrading back problem and was finally serious enough to get proper attention. Later someone maybe want to give Jason Bay an MRI?
  6. hah. good job. I wonder if i started a show called "Well Reasoned Sports Debate" if anyone would watch.

But more importantly, 9 against the Braves. Each of us plays the stupid fish and the Nats 3 times before facing off a week from today (where I'm regretting that I'll be at the SI Yanks/ B Cyclones game) Could be a huge series.
  8. Haha, I pissed off the beat writers by responding to their silly bickering with a "who reads newspapers anymore?" tweet.
  9. apparently demoted back to St. Lucie after batting .206 with Binghamton just a couple of days ago. I was surprised when I heard his name listening to the Johan broadcast.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: Not that close to the 45-pitch limit, but they problably gave him another batter or two on an adjacent field. Other than that. Couldn't ask for better, huh? he said on the post game it was 45 pitches or 3 IP. It doesn't sound like they're going to immediately build him up to 100, so not sure if they need to push him to 45 yet. Of course, some of this is what Ojeda said, and I don't trust him. They talked about 30 days being optimistic, neglecting that it's not a target date, it's actually a hard and fast rule. Not that they couldn't just shut him down again, but I think that requires another official stint on the DL which would mean he'd have to be on the roster which he's not? I dunno, it all gets fuzzy down there.
  11. he's done. Santana is done after 33 pitches, three innings, no runs, three K's, two hits. also a HBP and a nice defensive play.
  12. one of the Cubs batters bunted, went off Santana's glove, who then dove for it, spun and threw out the runner. Not quite what I wanted him to be working on ;-) nice play by Flores too supposedly.
  13. TransMonk wrote: Last 4 game sweep on the road: June 8-11, 2006 at Arizona. not many people were picking the Mets for the playoffs at that point either. Huh? They were 6.5 games ahead in first place then. They swept Philly right after that to go to 9.5 games up. It was still early June. That's right around the time people started realizing that the Mets were actually good, but they weren't a pick to make the playoffs before then.

I've been saying I'd like to see Schwinden too. Although, I might like to see Schwinny anyway and put Cappy in the pen and release Manny
  16. Beltran to take Bochy's 15. he'll switch to 16.
  17. TransMonk wrote: David Wright batting average when he hit the DL: .226 David Wright batting average after his first 4 ABs today: .270 15/32 since soming back. Damn. and he was about to catch Bay in RBIs. Glad that pressure seems to be getting Bay's bat into gear.
  18. Howie's really enjoying this one.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Sheesh, can there be any doubt that Bay is standing between this lineup and it's glorious fate? Glory. What I'm talking about is glory. Can Nickeas play left field?
  20. Gwreck wrote: Ceetar wrote: if he's mashing Seriously? It's been a year and half already. Wake me up when Bay's "mashing" starts. well about 1 season of 'games'. I wasn't saying I expected it, merely that it would mitigate offensive concerns. I could see Bay having a 'not terrible' year next two, but mashing is starting to seem like a lost cause.
  21. seawolf17 wrote: Hilarious, Meanwhile there is this "@AdamRubinESPN: Willie Harris has asked Justin Turner to get him a Twitter account on Thursday." Someone get Greg to write a buddy-movie writeup based around this. don't forget redturn2 wrote: Let's get the sweep today! Willie's twitter coming soon!
  22. Gwreck wrote: I can't see how this depends on Bay. We're a team in NY. Having cash to spend should be our advantage. Bay sucks? Oh well, that's $16M down the drain but shouldn't affect our other free agent signings. It affects our needs. if he's mashing, the offense is definitely fine, and may not be 'worth' signing Beltran. You could say a lot of _this_ season still depends on Bay.
  23. attgig wrote: not sure what the astros want: Yesterday we learned that the Phillies offered Jarred Cosart, Jonathan Singleton, and a second-tier pitching prospect for Hunter Pence, but the Astros did not pull the trigger. Domonic Brown may have been available as well, but appears Pence will remain with Houston until the offseason at least. The latest: The Braves are the last team in on Pence, tweets SI's Jon Heyman. The Phillies "seem to have all but given up" on Pence after their big offer was rejected. from mlb trade rumors. i kinda like that the phillies can't get any better, but i don't like how they get to keep their prospects. perhaps it's because their prospects suck?
  24. TransMonk wrote: I can get behind this. With the season he's putting up, I would love to see a two-year deal offered by the Mets for about $8M per with some incentives and possibly an option based on games played. I think he might get a longer term deal from an AL team, but I think Carlos really wants to play the field. That contract sounds fair, but it might not be enough.
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Tracky said, of all people, Mike Nickeas, but it depended upon when the deal was OKayed. Press conference at noon. supposedly they cited the reduced Bisons position players due to injuries as the reason for calling up Nickeas. I don't really like that they're choosing guys based on the Bisons situation and not the Mets..
