  2. A disturbing end of this list. On the other hand, every NY team imaginable has made the playoffs within 6 years so this probably doesn't look so dismal outside of New York. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2012/02/08/playoffs-playoffs/ Last New York Giants (NFL) playoff game: February 5, 2012 Last New York Red Bulls (MLS) playoff game: November 3, 2011 Last New York Yankees (MLB) playoff game: October 6, 2011 Last New York Liberty (WNBA) playoff game: September 19, 2011 Last New York Knicks (NBA) playoff game: April 24, 2011 Last New York Rangers (NHL) playoff game: April 23, 2011 Last New York Jets (NFL) playoff game: January 23, 2011 Last Long Island Lizards (Major League Lacrosse) playoff game: August 21, 2010 Last New Jersey Devils (NHL) playoff game: April 22, 2010 Last New York Titans (National Lacrosse League) playoff game: May 15, 2009 Last New York Dragons (Arena Football League) playoff game: July 5, 2008 Last New Jersey Ironmen (Major Indoor Soccer League) playoff game: April 12, 2008 Last New Jersey Nets (NBA) playoff game: May 18, 2007 Last New York Islanders (NHL) playoff game: April 20, 2007 Last New York Mets (MLB) playoff game: October 19, 2006

Officers say his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol. So lemme get this straight: the cops find someone passed-out and slumped over the steering wheel of his car but then allow him to drive away and don't get around to arresting him until after he does a slow-speed crash into the utility pole thang?!? The article doesn't make it clear at what point they noticed the smell of booze and slurred speech so we'll refrain from holding that one against them pending further details. I'm not sure they 'allowed' him to drive away.

  6. http://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/support I favor Fangraphs points, but I'd be good with any of them. What are the different game types? There are 3 game types for ottoneu fantasy baseball. They differ in the categories used and the scoring methods: Old School - Rotisserie-style 5x5 (AVG, HR, RBI, SB, R and W, SV, ERA, WHIP, K). For the traditionalist in you. ottoneu Classic - Rotisserie-style 4x4 sabermetric-hybrid (OBP, SLG, HR, R and ERA, WHIP, HR/9, K). This is the stat set of the original league that has been active since 2005. FanGraphs Points - Points based on Linear Weights. Based on work by Justin Merry. Read his great FAQ about the system, or read more detailed pieces behind the hitting and pitching point values. Hitting AB -1.0 H 5.6 2B 2.9 3B 5.7 HR 9.4 BB 3.0 HBP 3.0 SB 1.9 CS -2.8 Pitching IP 7.4 K 2.0 H -2.6 BB -3.0 HBP -3.0 HR -12.3 SV 5.0 HOLDS 4.0

  9. smg58 wrote: That might be too random, especially if we want to keep most of the players after this season. Plus you'd need to be on some sort of honors system. But if we have a large number of players drafting 40-man teams, some means of shortening the draft might be necessary. Well i figured this would be typical Yahoo one-year stuff.

  11. probably a minor leaguer.
  12. metirish wrote: Cerrone came across like a dick with his " did YOU talk to Jay himself?", " oh it was your agent and you take his word on that?"..paraphrasing there but come the fuck on right there. Well that's what makes his wording correct. "Megdal believes" because it's not a first hand report.
  13. Tom Goodwin maybe?
  14. 12.5 days. From Sherman: Also heard #Mets planning prospects (think Nimmo, Wheeler, etc) vs. their veterans exhibition on March 3 or 4 in St. Lucie That sounds pretty cool.

  16. I just had a random thought, and I don't know if this would be reasonable, but it _would_ require very little time. You buy one of those 36 packs of Topps cards and rank, in order from top to bottom, the players you get in Yahoo's pre-draft rankings. That's it. No trading/waivers. Just your ~36ish players randomly assigned.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: Megdal seems to be coming across a little tender, huh? I had read Cerrone's post out of context earlier and didn't think it discredited Howard at all. Cerrone seemed very careful to not 'take sides' and try to be objective. Medgal lashed out and blamed his relationship with SNY, which is what most Metsblog commenters do when they disagree.

Strawberry managed to change his lifestyle and minimize the temptations by staying away from certain people/places/things. He might make a good sponsor, but he's a Met, so Hamilton would have to demand a trade here first.;-)
  20. Stupidest face in the majors looks shocked he hit it. Is Parmalee bowling? Isn't it a waste of time to give Willis a card? Why is Latos' so much smaller? Here's Ryan
  21. metsguyinmichigan wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: This might sound like a dumb question but where do you buy baseball cards nowadays? I bought most of mine at Al's Luncheonette but that was 37 years ago. Target, Walmart and other big box stores usually have them. Not quite the same as riding my bike town to the corner store in Massapequa Park and getting a rack pack for 50 cents and having a pile of cards to show for it! Rack packs now are $500 with only 36 cards. I used to build sets by buying packs and trading doubles with friends who collect. Now I buy a couple packs when they first come out because I can't help myself, but buy the factory set when it comes out around the All-Star Game. I maxed out my credit card to buy one. I got a Lucas Duda (which I could see through the pack before I opened it) but no other Met, unless you count Nolan Ryan in 1981.
  22. metsmarathon wrote: the 1050 signal is so bad, in my old apartment in parsippany, i'd often get stronger signal from the ottawa(?) station that shares the same frequency. that's fucking bullshit. You could get that ottawa signal at night on Long Island sometimes too. for some reason the signals travel better at night, and if you're in a good spot.. Another place 1050 doesn't come in well is right around exit 19-20 on the Southern State Parkway. There's a broadcast tower there or something that seems to interfere. I worked in a cemetery nearby one winter.

If the Mets' radio contract with WFAN is up at the end of 2012, it's likely that's when Howie's current contract expires as well. This is a much more serious issue than the signal.
  25. bmfc1 wrote: Ceetar wrote: We hear this every time the contract is up, hopefully not, signal sucks. From what I've read, ESPN-NY is going to add an FM signal to help fix the problem with their AM signal. interesting. (google reveals this article about it http://sportsrantz.com/media/tag/espn-new-york-1050/) Although that article seems to be basing it largely on the "Mets suck, why wouldn't WFAN want to upgrade to the Yankees?" That actually seems like a bad idea business-wise to me. ESPN Radio getting an FM/wider signal AND a baseball team would drastically cut the ratings differential between the two. The signal is pretty bad on 1050. I don't really have a problem, but I do occasionally get static here and there. I've heard reports about 1050 sucking even in places in Manhattan and I remember it going in and out at times driving around in Nassau County. Of less import, you can get 660 way earlier driving towards NY back from say an away game, and much clearer. So there are pockets of places that are probably still in the "black out" zone for Mets games that don't really get 1050 well. I have no idea how some of the FM signals come in (I can get 94.7 when I'm flipping through, but I never stay on it to speak to that) or how far away. Can you get 94.7 as far away as say Miller Place, NY? Trenton, NJ?
