  1. yes, all that. I made the league public temporarily to bait someone to take that last team.
  2. I don't necessarily want to rag on Jeanne Melino, though this last statement of her attached bio is suspect "Ms. Melino is a life-long New Yorker and was born and raised in the Bronx." Is this a "tell us she's a Yankees fan without telling us she's a Yankees fan?"
  3. yeah. Chris Christie, the only person that attended every Mets game last year.
  4. I'm tempted to do Opening Day but technically the wife would have to quarantine/WFH if i attend an event with 8k people. Taking the whole family, including the 6 and 4 year old unable to be vaccinated children, probably depends on the outbreak status this summer. Hopefully her company adjusts their protocols to allow vaccinated people to do things like this and I'll at least attend a game or two solo some weekday night or something. It all feels so ..foreign right now. Like I can't imagine just wandering into Citi Field on a whim some random night.

  6. If a team scores 10 runs a black hole swallows the runs, AND a win from the other team. oh wait that's Blaseball
  7. you can run from home to first after scoring if you want. Same rules apply as at first, if you make the turn, you can be tagged out. no taking a few steps and then deciding "nah, i'll just go back to the dugout" Totally confuses the fielding situations. runner on third, hitter knocks a lazy, but deep, fly to LF. Typically you just have the fielder casually shag it and lob it back to second. NO excitement. A run scores and like no one's even energetic. NOW though, you gotta hurry or that runner is gonna get back to first. Or maybe it's the opposing pitcher at third. Do you slow-play it, hoping to get the pitcher back on base? try to tire him out? Runner on first and second. You field a single in the outfield..do you throw home? no he's probably already made it right? so third to try to keep the first runner from getting 2 bases? but that throw might let the first runner loop to first again if the batter can get to second. But maybe he makes the turn to first but the batter was just lazily playing it as a single! Rundown between first and home!
  8. i told the people running the other yahoo league in "i apologize if i ignore deadlines, please nudge me i don't mind" so this might be a step up? i don't have a pref. head to head seems better for more casual leagues.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Or, as I've advocated many times here, eliminating the eight on-mound warm-up pitches entirely. That would be the single easiest way to eliminate dead time and it confounds me that it never seems to be in the discussion while all sorts of whacky rules are advanced even though most have nothing to do with the supposed problem they're trying to address. The argument I've heard is that pitcher's won't stand for it because of minute differences to the mound, etc. But you could probably negotiate to like ..4 pitches. But the real time sink here I guess is that the play has to reset, and the next batter announced, as that's part of the strategy. And you have to give the team at least a moment to choose a pinch hitter as a result of a play, and theoretically then the other a moment to choose a pitcher as the result of the pinch hitter. But still, after that if you ran a 30 sec commercial, one that's split screen or sort of "in broadcast" still, while the pitcher runs in, and then talk about the pitcher, his record, what/why he's in that situation, he's probably then ready to pitch and you're done. You got a commercial in, the pitcher is ready, you never broke away from the broadcast so it doesn't really feel like a break.
  10. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=57870 time=1615683810 user_id=119] Well, the networks aren't making managers use four pitchers in the seventh inning every game, or make pitchers throw eight half-hearted pickoff tosses to first everytime a semi-fast guy gets on base, or batters to step out of the box after every pitch to adjust their batting gloves.
  11. well for one, those aren't problems. they're just things. Though quicker moving games are certainly nicer, and better for fans, fans are no longer the customer, TV Networks are. Literally every 'problem' with baseball is because of TV Networks.
  12. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=57834 time=1615595027 user_id=68] I've always had this pet peeve about baseball poets waxing poetic about how perfect baseball is
  13. banning shifts is inane and one of those things that actively turns me off. Baseball doesn't even _really_ have defensive players. The guy designated as 'RF' can play between third and the pitcher if he wants, on one pitch, and then hang out with his buddy in LF the next one. It's a group of 9 guys defending, with some rules focused around the battery, because without them you'd literally break the game. It's why double switches are (still, for another season or so) a thing. The batting order is immutable, but because you can always have the RFer pitch, it works. I know we've mostly ignored that for a while, and officially designated fielders, which is why double switches don't violate the "must pitch to one batter" rule and that rule about designated players as "hitters or pitchers" doesn't break it either. But it breaks the fluidity of baseball. You've got 9 guys out there, put them wherever. You've got 12 pitchers, use 'em whenever. Hit it where they ain't and stand where they hit it. That's just logical baseball stuff and I don't know why you'd try to change it. Might as well ban 70mph squibs through the infield because it wasn't fair that you didn't hit it at a guy.
  14. also having one or two people moving among the cardboard is unnerving.
  15. baseball noises in the background. always fun. guillorme making a case for defensive spots, for sure. oh, i should make soda bread.

  17. we do need one more owner to replace Fman fwiw.
  18. oh, I'm sorry, are you bringing up a fucking Wendy's again when we're talking about cops murdering black people? The Wendy's where cops rolled up, harassed a drunk black man until he got aggressive, and then chased down the unarmed black man who was RUNNING AWAY (don't give me crap about a taser, it was discharged and they knew it, per the charges) and shot him? I'm sorry, running after a drunk and unarmed black man isn't exactly what it'd look like if it was a damn deer in the woods? Or breaking into someone's house, that isn't even the right house, for a crime that someone has already been arrested for, shooting a sleeping woman, who then was alive for 20 minutes while they ignored her and let her die, and then ARRESTING her boyfriend for daring to shoot at the intruders isn't hunting black people? I admit I've never been hunting, but it must be pretty damn brutal if that doesn't qualify. all, meanwhile, to bring it back to the damn fucking point, MLB puts on preformative gestures. OH THAT WAS NICE and then like 3 players actually kneel during the anthem, they get rid of the BLM on the mound real damn fast (gotta get that sponsorship money!) and we're rapidly getting back to ignoring it. Why are we even playing the national anthem at games within the nation, against each other, to an empty stadium? Oh right, performative patriotism. I reiterate, what a garbage country. And Biden may slow our downslide, but is he going to fix any of this? no.
  19. =kcmets post_id=41775 time=1595810985 user_id=53] Ceetar, I had no idea you had such serious issues with me. I'm sorry.
  20. =nymr83 post_id=41759 time=1595801384 user_id=54] =Ceetar post_id=41637 time=1595707418 user_id=102] then don't chime in and let me and batmags talk about it. That's fine.
  21. then don't chime in and let me and batmags talk about it. That's fine. Especially if your comment is "I haven't decided" or whatever wishy washy thing you said. I'm not putting any thoughts into anybody's head. This is the situation as it stands in this garbage country.
  22. I'm not practised in whining about DH lineups ,but Nimmo is a better hitter than most of those, feel like he's not the guy you want ninth.
  23. is it not black and white? I'm certainly willing to listen to your evidence and statistics that suggest SOME black people need to be killed by the police. It's worth remembering that every single person killed by the police, black, white, whatever, are innocent. Every single once of them. That's codified in law. Even the very few where force is warranted for self-defense, innocent. Cops are literally _less_ codified to assess guilt than the person they are killing. Go ahead, tell me how saying "don't kill people" is in anyway or at any time, not black and white.
