  1. Cuddy: 3-3 with a walk. Yeah, there were no RBI, no runs scored, and no extra bases, but having spent these last few weeks in the Kingdom of WeGottaGetThisGuyGoin', I'll sure take it. up above league average OBP now. Drive a few balls this weekend and his line will actually look decent.

  3. Edgy MD wrote: What he's barely ever doing is walking, but he just led off of with one of those rare gemstones. Wilmer Flores breaks out his baserunner eraser.

Yikes! Mets reinforcements are arguably closer to returning, and Harper will not hit .500 like he has over the last 14 days.

  7. Frayed Knot wrote: Nice of someone to finally dent the back end of the Yanx bullpen, just wish it hadn't been the Nats. Not technically a blown save since it was a tie game, but those were the first earned runs scored all season off of either Betances or Miller. Ryan Zimmerman, who won last night's contest with a 2R HR off of Andrew Miller, now has 10 career walk-off HRs. Not only is that a lot in a general sense, but everyone else who has as many* or more than him has at least twice as many career HRs as compared to Zimmerman's comparatively paltry 189. Looked at another way, more than 5% of his HRs have gone for walk-off winners. Active leaders Pujols & Papi, for instance, have 11 walk-off HRs each but have those spread over a combined 999 career HRs, barely over 2%. Jayson Werth back to the DL. I think he sprained his hair. Infielder Wilmer Difo was called up making the NL East a two-Wilmer division. So Werth and Ellsbury got hurt? I certainly wasn't 'rooting' for injuries out of that series, but... * At least as far as can be determined. Some pre-1930s data for WO HRs are sketchy.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: My other complaint is that Terry just doesn't seem hungry to find an edge on his opponent. I agree with this. A lot of it is perhaps marginal, but marginal edges add up. But my main reason for supporting Collins is that I don't think the Mets would hire the guy looking for that edge, and I don't think Backman would. I kinda feel the same way about Warthen though.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: And the thing is, interviews like that aren't even all Gelbs' fault. Yeah it was inane, but what are you going to ask a guy early in a game he's not playing? The main fault lies with station mgmt who hires guys like this because they think they have to (after all, everyone else has one) and then feels obligated to use him to justify the hire. Bottom line is, just because you CAN do something ('hey, we've got the backup catcher cornered - get Gelbs over there quick!!') doesn't always mean it's a good idea. well, he presumably knew he was going to interview him. I mean, maybe something better than "I know you haven't caught Syndergaard yet, but tell me about him?" ?
  10. I don't think they're pulling this one out.

  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: So, Ceciliani (I'm going to have to learn how to spell that) replaces Nieuwenhuis (I do know how to spell that one!) But what's his role going to be? Does he replace Campbell, with Murphy going back to third and Ceciliani to second? Or does Ceciliani go to shortstop and Wilmer to second? Or does Wilmer, the team's leader in homers and errors, sit? he's an outfielder. Lefty. He'll get some starts and primo pinch-hitting duties I'd imagine.

SNY was showing stats that imply Harvey has historically fallen off after 100 pitches (something like a .400+ BA against in his career). It was maybe not something they wanted to test in such a tight game. yeah, but that's sorta my point. if your arm is stretched out to 100 pitches, when you get there you're about at the end of your endurance. if you'd stretched it out beyond that, you might not be straining as much at 100. Maybe not specifically last night, but in general. Also those after 100 pitches stats are often so small samples it's hard to take them seriously.
  14. yeah, I'd probably play.
  15. my calendar says friday is 5/29, and 5/30 is a 4pm Saturday start. ;-) Guess that means I'm going to try to get to the 5/28 game.
  16. Centerfield wrote: It was nice to see Goedell and Robles shine in a high leverage situation. Maybe Terry will remember they are out there now. I never got the feeling they would punch this one out. But these Mets showed they are a real threat to score when the opposing pitcher walks three in an inning. well 3* That AB to Duda was amusing. Really highlights that Cuddyer needs to get going though, and if David is really on the mend, that'll help too. The Mets lineup is too workable right now, but when David (And d'Arnaud) are back, there are a lot less holes. You don't walk Duda there if it's David. Hell, I'm not sure there's anyone you walk there to face David, who has the 4th highest wRC+ against lefties from 2005-2015. (Jose Abreu, Paul Goldschmidt, Ryan Braun) Part of that was the 14th inning crunch of pitchers, normal circumstances you probably lefty-lefty Duda or walk him and switch to a righty. Glad they pulled it out. It's always fun to see lofty pitcher W-L records, but they're really not very useful anyway. Harvey was amazing, love that he settled down after seemingly missing a little bit early. I know they're trying to manage Harvey and all, but personally I think they should get these guys to 120 pitches a few times, even if it's an irregular occurrence, so that 100 pitches isn't occuring at the tail end of their endurance.

  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Nats off today, so we'll either double our slim lead or eliminate it entirely all on our own. They'll host the Yanx for three games starting Tuesday; trying to figure out a way to have both teams go 0-3 in those games but am drawing a blank so far. best I can come up with is massive rain delay/power failure/something that causes the series to be postponed until later in the year, creating a schedule crunch for both of them that ends up hurting. Or each game goes 18 innings and necessitates both teams having to call up an additional starter, or TWO!, to make a spot start.

  20. silly fever spoiled Sophie's intended first game Saturday (no fedora for me) targeting either 6/14 cap day or 6/28 Lucas Duda Growth Chart day (or both really)
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Meaningful progress, I think. Granderson up to 13th of 24 qualifying right fielders in OPS. 12/25 in wRC+ and 7th in OBP. I might start reviving my leadoff complaint soon, wasting those leadoff homers with no one on. (and it's not like Flores/pitcher get on a lot 8th/9th)
  22. As nice as was to build the big lead, and as much as it sucked to let it get away, this is likely going to be decided head to head, and the Mets don't play the Nats until after the ASG. So, keep pace and what not.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: "One Size Fits Most" is a claim open to all kinds of interpretation. I'm not quite in Bochy territory but I've got a pretty big melon. If I actually cared about getting a (100% Paper) fedora I'd likely wind up kinda pissed that I'd have to jam it on my head to come up with even a passable definition of 'fit'. I ended up not making it to this game so I cannot attest to it's size. I believe my cap size is 7 3/4. They certainly did promote the hell out of this one though. I demand the same coverage for Lucas Duda Growth Chart Day (and why is it first 15k fans and not first 15k kids?)
