  1. gotta get a lot of credit for a top start in Coors FieldZambrano 5Anderson 3Castro 2
  2. how's about acquiring Roberto Petagaine; not exactly sexy i know, but a left handed power bat that should be able to be had for some AAA with ML experience pitching (do you hear me JW Seo?)
  3. hey sorry about being unclear earlier, but i was quoting direct from Carroll, how I read it was .....the mets were unhappy giving up two prospects for Soriano when they had places to fill next year, but would give up two prospects for Soriano & Casey, as that would fill 1b for next year. I could of read it wrong.
  4. Carroll's latest update; "The Mets have been reluctant to give up two of their best prospects to get Alfonso Soriano, knowing they'll need to fill some gaps in the off-season. That knowledge let the Reds stick their nose into a possible deal. According to two sources with knowledge of the discussions, the Reds would send Sean Casey and his contract to the Mets along with Soriano. The Rangers would then give the Reds one or two B level prospects such as Juan Dominguez or John Hudgins."put on the record for saying That'd a massive fucking gamble that would be a really, really, bad idea.

only gave us the injury spiel today"The Mets are increasingly pessimistic about the return of Kaz Matsui this season. Knee problems still have the 2B hobbled, keeping him from doing more than light jogging at this stage. The best case scenario is now becoming a return to the bench sometime in September, forcing the Mets to stay with Miguel Cairo at second. The Mets will likely move Matsui in the off-season, with some rumors saying that Matsui is contemplating a return to Japan."
  6. Will Carroll's Latest update on Soriano"Posted Tuesday, July 26, 2005, 10:28 a.m.: Jamey Newberg breaks down the rumor mill on Alfonso Soriano nicely. The Rangers are still giving a lot of 'no comment' responses, but the current consensus is that they're asking for Lastings Milledge, Yusmeiro Petit, and would love to get Mike Cameron into the deal somehow. This trade will percolate a while before any real action. The Twins are also inquiring about Soriano as they get ready to move on from the Bret Boone experiment."In all seriousness, Petit & Milledge just seems WAY too much.
  7. FWIW: [cross posted in rehab thread] - perhaps a deal with Texas for pitching *might* make sense. Will Carroll is reporting that Kaz Matsui may be done for the season - meaning the Kent & Soriano rumours might have turned up a notch.

the thing is (and I talked about this with edgy before) seeing as we're committed to Beltran for 7 years, it makes sense to keep him in CF, the idea being that once someone starts to move along the defensive specturm, it might be harder for them to reverse course after 2/3 years. It's such a pity that the yankees are the 'contenders' with the biggest need for a CF - I just don't see them having anything we want.
  10. you might like to know that Father Ted was written by Graham Linehan & Arthur Matthews, both of whom worked for us for a few years before moving to London to get into Comedy. I actually met Arthur on Wednesday night after the Shelbourne Glentoran game!

  12. fucking cool game. I arrived home from work (leaving early) to get to the game at the 4th - I missed Minky's shot, but got pretty much everything else. Reyes' steal and Ishii's score on the error was great fun, but overall they played EXTREMELY well. I'm still not convinced by Ishii, but what the hell sweeps are what we need!!!!
  13. i've caught since the 4th innning and they've simply been playing great baseball.
  14. seriously sal, by your constant exaggeration you undermine any point you're trying to make. For example, putting forward Garcia - last seen getting release from the Buffalo Bisons and Wigginton who's a poor fielding low obp utility infielder AT BEST (as evidenced by the fact that he was sent by the minors by the Pirates) as any kind of 'that coulda been a 2nd base solution' is completely fucking stupid. Actually you should credit the mets in NOT getting caught up in Wigginton's hot streak round about this time last year and Garcia's streaky september and realising that they were very expendable commodities. Keppinger's slightly different in that he's shown this year that YES he does have potential (with an 800+ OPS at AAA this year). However, did you know that he only started playing with wooden bats in 2002? Did you know that he was in A ball in 2003, AA in 2004? Did you know that in 3 years in the minors up to 2004 he's hit a total of 14 home runs? They were 100% RIGHT to start keppinger at AAA this year, to allow him to continue his development; if he hadn't been injured when Matsui & Cairo were hurt I'm sure he would have come up and been given a decent whirl. However, all you do is try to see what gross incompetency and malevolency.
  15. does ANYONE think that they'd actually bring Jeff Torberg back?
  16. yeah he's only 24 but he's just shown NO power at all, it's not as if he's got 50 doubles that he could convert into 25 home runs and 25 doubles he's been hitting just over 20 doubles per season. that ain't near enough.
  17. Edgy DC wrote:Only four this year, though. Go figure.Em, well it's not that hard. between the fact that the OBP in front of him's been lousy (Reyes & Matsui) and the fact that ALL of Reyes, Matsui and Beltran a very quick it's a hell of a lot harder to GIDP then the Olerud, Alfonso et al era. Even Floyd is pretty quick.
  18. it's SO much more fun over there - they've got splinter groups and all, with multiple forums and what's more then can tell you that Huston Street is *yummy* but good cause he's "religious". Now that's analysis.
  19. hang on I demand a recount; Jose Bautista was NEVER involved with the mets, what the Pirates did with Huber when they got him is NOTHING to do with us ;)
  20. oakland - was it t long for rogers or taylor for isringhousen?
  21. philly might have been pratt for bennett either.
  22. ok: San Fran: Shinjo & Desi for Shawn EstesPittsburgh: Wigginton, Huber [who then got traded for some dude who KC had claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh], Peterson for Keppinger & BensonTampa Bay: Kazmir, XXXXXXX for Zambrano & FortunatoMiwaukee: Rusch + XXXXXXX for Burnitz, D'amico Colorado: Jay Satan for John ThomsonCleveland: Escobar, Lawton for Alomar + XXXXXXXPhilly: Kook, Wendell for Bruce Chen & Adam Walkeri'll have more in a minute
  23. Bobby V liked obp at the top of the lineup.
  24. side issue here, one of the real problems with addressing suicide on an ongoing basis is the stigmatisation of it which is evidenced by the use of "complications from a mental illness"that's a nice way of saying it, so I don't have a huge issue with it, but in Ireland (mostly due to the Catholic Church) families always went on an a misguided quest to try and get the coroner to declare it "death by misadventure" it's wrong because it tries to hide the loneliness and desperation that someone must have felt, and that we need to try to capture and know how to stop.
  25. i wouldn't be upset about walking wilkerson to get to carroll here.
