  1. It's just a game.
  2. Cooby's favorite just misses a bases loaded hit down the line.
  3. I'm for a one-week all-star break, but I'm also for all-star teams representing the top 8 baseball-ing nations playing in a three-day all-star tournament. Nobody likes that idea except me.
  4. The Mets will just have to win the World Series in five games.
  5. Reading this freaky book for a book club:If Margaret Atwood was that paranoid about right-wing Christians in 1986 then she must be stir-crazy now. I think that U2's song "Acrobat" was inspired by this book.
  6. I think at least of part of the solution is that the parent does not give the book and then run away. They talk about it with their kids and that helps fill in the gaps.
  7. I must have missed "it." I guess this makes me and cooby your only friends.
  8. Who ignores you? You're quite un-ignore-able. Especially since you're with that Mr. Met fellow.
  9. You think Doubting Thomas is the old Mets Online poster of the same name?Does joelmon have a blog?
  10. Podsednik has taken the lead according to mlb.com. I put in a few more votes for him just in case.
  11. Looks kind of like Screech out of costume.
  12. We need some votes here folks. I know for a fact that more than 6 of yuz watched this game.
  13. A nod to the pugnacious, beer-bellied Nationals mascot, Screech. And yeah, I'm bitter.Box ScoreRecap
  14. Bowie Baysox fans have a gas, gas, gas.
  15. I was wondering the same thing. Especially with the "if he turns in 2 or 3 starts like his last one" part. If a pitcher starts pitching consistently well, that may be the point where you might want to think about keeping him.
  16. We missed Cooby. In fact, we all mentioned her when we saw Carlos Baerga in the Washington lineup and again when Baerga made a good catch in foul territory. So I want to hear the report on the dinner last night and the fireworks in DC. Ms. Tiger and I had fun at our friends' cookout and then flew home seeing fireworks displays in communities across the eastern seaboard. The fireworks themselves looked just like little cottonballs from above, but it was neat to see several towns' fireworks all at once. It was also fun to fly over places like Brooklyn and Queens where it looked like every street corner and rooftop was exploding with color.
  17. Connecticut Post is a Bridgeport newspaper. It's been around for a while. That's all I know about it. I grew up reading the Stamford Advocate.
  18. Yeah, sorry it's been so dry for so long. Today is like the end of Prohibition.
  19. Well, despite Scarlet's boosterism for Mini Knight, she was pretty quiet herself, so I'd award her point to Dickshot for his clever chants. Also, I'd give one of Edgy's points to D-Dad since D-Dad held up the banner and endured the attack by Screech the Overweight Eagle.MiniKnight 4D-Dad 2Edgy 1Dickshot 1KC 1Willets 1
  20. Your pollster has fallen off the temperance wagon and is posting beer polls again! And what a good game to restart with: a Mets win on our nation's birthday with several Cranepoolers in attendance.Box ScoreRecapSubmit your write in votes in bold.
  21. ScarletKnight41 wrote:If you want a Cranepooler of the Day, let me nominate the soon to be registered Mini Knight. He scored the game, cheered his heart out, and was the only one wearing a rally hat in the top of the 9th <g>I beg your pardon. With MiniKnight's assistance (insistence?) I had a rally cap too. Really smart kid though, I think he followed the game more closely than any of us and kept a neater scorecard than mine.
  22. What the hell have they done to the logo on the hat? That's way too busy.
  23. My conspiracy theory is that MLB and the 29 teams that own the Nats want the team to as well as possible so they can sell the team for beaucoup bucks. There's probably a flaw in that theory, but that's true of all conspiracy theories.
  24. This may not be too weird, but it fits here better than anywhere else. From Dan Shaugnessy's column in the Boston Globe.]Top player on this year's Wesleyan baseball team was none other than Jeffrey Maier -- who made history in 1996 when he reached over the right-field wall in Yankee Stadium and turned Derek Jeter's fly ball into a home run in a playoff game against the Orioles. Maier, a junior outfielder, hit .350 and led his team in slugging, on-base percentage, hits, runs, double, and triples. Still good with the glove, too.Any chance the Yankees sign him?
  25. Hi Bret, glad you had a good time at Fenway. Sorry I didn't have more time to spend with you and your daughter.Just out of curiousity, did you buy your program outside or inside the ballpark? The one sold outside is independent and known for harsh criticism of the team, while the one sold inside is Sox-produced and more sycophantic.
