  1. I think he's actually writing a book as a political pundit.
  2. Where's that villagers with torches pic when you need it? I want to start a witch hunt to root out the Yankees sympathizers in this forum. Seriously though, I'll go with Scarlett's demoralizing scenario over anything else.
  3. This means we've got Soler, Martinez, Glavine for the Red Sox. I have tix for Games #1 & 3 so I miss Pedro but get to see Glavine who seems to start (and lose) every game I've attended the last 3 years.
  4. Mr. Zero wrote: My ideal situation: Phillies sweep while the Mets go 3-0 over the same period. Then let Boston take three from the Phils over the weekend. Mr. Zero, I like the way you think.
  5. I go with Phillies take 2 of 3 for the following reasons: 1. Except when they're playing the Mets or threatening their divisional lead I kind of like the Phillies (I'll have 'em lose one game so their heads won't get to big though). 2. It would be really cool if the Phillies won the wild card and played (and lost to) the Mets in the NLCS. 3. It would be really cool if the Yankees didn't play in the postseason at all. Again this is all contingent on the Phillies being way, way back in the standings at the start of the series and not gaining on the Mets in the process.
  6. SI Metman wrote: Also, I hope for no TH the next 3 days when the Yanks play the Phillies. Actually Philadelphia is far enough behind the Mets now that if they sweep the Yankees I'll be pleased. As long as the Mets are winning their games too, of course.

  8. A Prairie Home Companion is basically a variety show so I'm not sure how they made it into a movie. Are they're dramatizing Keillor's News from Lake Wobegone or doing a "behind the scenes" movie of the radio show or something else entirely?
  9. June 18th Triple Happiness #8 Orioles 4, Mets 9 Yankees 2, Nationals 3 Red Sox 10, Braves 7 The Phillies ended their 6-game losing streak and the chance for bonus happiness.

Hey so was I, where were you sitting? Way down the LF line in a seat that faced the outfield, IIRC. Me too, I was in the upper level over a tunnel looking over the first base area. Olerud made a rare and costly error where the ball bounced off him and fell to a stop right in front of him but he didn't see it and started looking behind him. This was the first time I saw the Mets in person in about ten years at the time. It was a long drive back to Williamsburg after 12 innings. And yes I went to work in the morning.

  12. They've all never been in my kitchen.
  13. I like that the two of the previous streaks were in '69 & '86.
  14. Mets actually won their 8th in a row today. A sweep of Baltimore will tie.
  15. That's a wealth of information. Good job.
  16. Mike Jacobs - who is not Jewish - was honored by the Florida Marlins for Jewish Heritage Day. Or was he?
  17. Chavez 2 Delgado 1 Franco .5 Heilman .5 Reyes 2 Sanchez .5 Wagner .5 Wright 3
  18. Holy shit! Did I just see my New York Mets when they were in first place and had the chance to put the death nail into the second place team actually SWEEP that second place team? I must be dreaming.
  19. Wow, it feels like he pitches in every game.
  20. I think definition #1 is what Steinbrenner expects of the Yankees.
  21. Elster88 wrote: Definition 2 seems to be what he was going for. I think he knows what it meant, Inigo. I know Edgy knows, he's a copy editor fer chrissake. I just figure the sports radio & tv guys who throw the word around probably don't have a clue.
