  1. Going to the regular season home finale. No surprise then that Glavine is the probable starter.
  2. Hmph...I tune in and Pedro goes all Glavine on me. Was he doing well before this inning?
  3. Edgy DC wrote: Hang onto Norfolk. David Wright's youth is there. Willets Point also. Gold Glove also. Well, my young adulthood was 60 miles away, but close enough.
  4. cooby wrote: Tom Carvel's voice was created just to say the words "cookie puss" You guys are killing me. I laughed so hard I hemmoraged an internal organ when Cookie O'Puss came on in that commercial.
  5. Tom Carvel was the keynote speaker at my uncle's graduation.
  6. Whoa! Now there's a flashback. All it's missing is Tom Carvel's incoherent narration (or is that Tom Carvel with his voice disguised?).
  7. I think Rickey should go in as Rickey. With a big "Rickey 24" on his hat. Seriously.

  9. Well that's bad history since clippers are a specific type of sailing ship from the 19th-century.
  10. Farmer Ted wrote: My nrother lives in Columbus and confirms the Nats AAA squad is going there AND possibly retaining the Clippers name. He and I both believe that the Clippers name was born out of Nazi-brenner's loves for boats and a tribute to his father who was a ship-building magnate. Researchers, please confirm or deny. The Clippers website notes that the team was known as the Clippers first when they were a Pirates affilliate 1977-1978. I would infer that would mean Steinbrenner was not involved. It is an odd name for an inland city franchise.
  11. Evidence points to Ted Williams getting much more love in retirement that in his playing days in Boston.
  12. Ooh, can I join in the Spamma Slamma? Seriously though, you need to do your market research. Read this forum and see how we respond to unsolicited advertising (aka SPAM), before making your pitch. I think you would find that we don't take too kindly to commercial interuption of our friendly discussion of the Mets. If you'd like to join the conversation, welcome abordick!
  13. Columbus Swing Voters has a good ring to me.

  15. ]The A Team Returns "I pity the fool!!"
  16. I like the White Sox ballpark too. It feels like a larger version of the Norfolk Tides' Harbor Park. Like Shea, I think it suffers from the soulless exterior - a sea of parking and no real neighborhood in sight. Wrigley has a big advantage over Comiskey in that sense.
  17. I liked Reggie. I remember him being pretty darn popular.
  18. I don't like all those road games in the western time zone.
  19. Chavez 1.5 Glavine 2.5 AHernandez 3 Milledge 1 Tucker .5 Wagner 1.5
  20. If George wants to rid himself of his A-Rod problems (at a discount) I'd be happy for the Mets to take him on. He could play 2d base.
  21. The New Orleans Zephyrs are the only professional sports team from Louisiana to win a championship. They also are the first team to return to playing home games in New Orleans (Metairie actually) after Hurricane Katrina. Hey, it would make for a good road trip to see the future Mets play in New Orleans.
  22. Should have started this lineup against the Pirates.
  23. ="Johnny Dickshot"]wham
  24. The actual lineup: A. Hernandez SS E. Chavez CF L. Milledge LF J. Franco 3B M. Tucker 1B C. Woodward 2B R. Ledee RF M. DiFelice C T. Glavine P
  25. WILD CARD CONTENDERS H. Ramirez D. Uggla M. Cabrera 3B J. Willingham LF W. Helms 1B C. Ross RF M. Olivo C A. Amezaga CF S. Olsen P DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONS A. Hernandez SS E. Chavez CF L. Milledge LF J. Franco 3B M. Tucker 1B C. Woodward 2B R. Ledee RF M. DiFelice C T. Glavine P That lineup will put the fear of God into any pitcher.
